Following the moving truck as they turned onto a dead end street, I saw what was to be my new temporary home. Hopefully, very temporary. This was to be my latest assignment bringing me closer to headquarters to do some high level reviews and inquiries. I didn't want to leave the south just yet as I had little desire for the Company's politics, even so something else was drawing me to this town. No vampires really lived out here this far from the city, just one or two passing through.

Once the moving truck was backed into the drive way the movers started to unloaded it. Going inside, I began directing them which rooms to move each item into and staging some pieces. When they left I'd unpack more and move things where I wanted, allowing them to do it would rise less suspicion. They would be done soon, whatever I didn't bring with me, which honestly wasn't a lot, I would go into town and buy. The sun was high in the sky it was late September and still bringing in hotter days, making the guys sweat, increasing my hunger even more. I should feed tonight, it had been almost two weeks, I would hunt out of town for a while. Can't let anyone think the new guy was a killer.

Just as the last boxes were being unloaded I was attacked by the most delicious aroma I had ever smelled in all of my existence. My head snapped over to where the scent was coming from looking to find its owner. I felt as my body sang with delight, my eyes resting on the girl from next door. She was about 5'8", intense brown hair that bounced with every step, cascading all the way down her back. Her skin wasn't a bronze tanned but did seem to have a warm glow, I couldn't see her face though. She never looked up from the ground, it was like she was on a mission and trying not to be seen.

Stopping at the mailbox and taking out its contents I could finally see her face, flawless. Beautiful cheekbones, luscious pink lips; I noticed a cut on the far side and could faintly smell the blood, maybe she was just clumsy? Or an athlete, she seemed on the smaller side but that didn't mean she wasn't one. Moving up I still couldn't see her eyes, they were being hidden by long thick lashes, she was beautiful. I was now ecstatic that I was pulled to this town, I'd found my soul mate. She'd be mine. A loud noise came from the truck and her head shot up with a flinch, and that's all it took.

No words could ever describe the connection I felt when I saw those blue eyes lock on me. Unsure of what to do, I waved her over and tried to give a natural smile. The need to know her, talk to her, it was overwhelming and all consuming. She briskly walked into the house, Allen Smith's house recalling the files I was sent. He was a computer programmer, he did very well for himself, yet no mention of a daughter or niece in his file. He worked for the Company, a vampire owned one at that. Allen was actually one of the programmers in charge of creating accounts and documents that allowed us to blend in easily, he knew of our kind and was compensated for that knowledge and silence.

I pulled out my phone and quickly shot off a email to Allen, informing him of my arrival and how I was looking forwarded to meeting with him. Also my excitement at having him show me around the company. He was aware that would be moving next door, his belief was so he could train and supervise me. What he remained unaware of was it was me watching over him. Seconds later he responded: "Congratulations Mr. Cape, I'm glad your transition went so well, and that we will be neighbors and co-workers. My daughter and I would be honored if you'd join us for dinner tonight. 7 o'clock sound okay?"

Assertive I see, quickly responding to confirm I would be joining the Smith's for dinner. So she was his daughter, no matter, I would be able to meet her in roughly 6 hours. My soul electrified with joy.

The movers finished up shortly after, tipping them all well, and then set off to the next town to feed. I didn't wanna lose control around her, while mature this wasn't an event you could easily train for. Never wanting to hurt her it was necessary, then realizing didn't know my mates name. I began wondering if her name fit her beauty, did it reflect her personality? What was her favorite color? Did she have allergies? What did she hate? Was she still in school? Then a thought struck me, what if she had a boyfriend. My body reacted aggressively, speeding up and increasing my hunger. Not handling the thought of a human boy touching my mate well, another sign this hunt was needed. She was my soulmate.

Reaching the next town in no time, I made my way to the waterfront. Homeless people, criminals, and druggies like to hang around isolated areas, and this was as good as any. Casually walking on the beach towards the caves, until I saw a man crouched down behind a group of rock, he was digging through a purse he'd recently stolen probably. I didn't have time to be picky, jumping down to him I grabbed him. Instantly covering his mouth, exposing his shoulder I immediately bit into his rough skin with my razor sharp teeth. I drank him until his heart was beats away from death. Pulling away the wound was almost healed already, laying him far enough away from the water the tide wouldn't drown him. Patrol would find him or he'd wake on his own, I wasn't concerned.

Checking the time it was now 4:27. With plenty of time until my dinner with the Smith's I ran home to shower. A new plan I created to pass more time was to run into town picking up some wine and something for her. Flowers? Jewelry? Yes, a simply but elegant bracelet seemed nice enough. Every move of her arm would be a gentle reminder of me. Pulling into the house I could smell the cooking next door it was delicious, just an hour more and then I would finally meet my soulmate.

Just one more hour.
