Kaylin
Dinner was nearly finished. Allen handed me his credit card and said to take the car, go get a new dress and everything for dinner. Anything I would need to impress our new neighbor. Refusing to allow one detail escape my mind, I set off immediately. First stop was the mall, stopping at a the clothing store looking until I had found an outfit that I knew was perfect. I also got some new makeup, also a blue flower hair clip that went perfect with my outfit. With my bags loaded into the car, I moved to my next stop the market.
Two hours later I was home and my roast with potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, and onions was cooking away in our double stacked ovens. Hustling up the stairs to start my mini makeover. Showering again, this time shaving my legs and making sure I exfoliated even inch of my body. Once out of the shower I started to apply my base layer of makeup, I only need to hide away some smaller imperfections. I just finished by putting on some powder foundation, I then made my eyes pop with a gentle nude to brown to smoky eye. I only applied a liquid cat eyeliner to my top lids, and added mascara to both sets of lashes. Makeup completed, I moved to put on my new dress. It was a white sundress with a sweetheart neckline and spaghetti straps. It clung to my torso and flared at the hip cutting off a little before the knee. The hem line at skirt of the dress was decorated with embroidered blue flowers. Not too much leg showed, not too my cleavage, and with the blue half sweater top I added it my arms wouldn't be bare. I hoped Allen approved. Adding a blue waist belt to add color and shape to the dress. Lastly adding my new hair clip, I pulled two front sections of my hair and bound them at the back of my head my and fastened the clip.
Running downstairs I checked the roast, it smelled amazing. It was now 5:30, I decided I should start the rest of dinner. Placing my cooking apron on I opened the oven pulling out most of the potatoes and began mashing them, I also mixed some flour and broth from the roast together making a homemade gravy. In the second oven I put on some garlic bread sticks. While everything simmered and seeing I still had some time I began to make a peach cobbler, Allen's favorite.
At 6:50 I started plating and setting the table, I set the salad I had put together on the table. Quickly I grabbed the bread sticks placing them next to the salad. Allen and our guest had two glasses at their seats, I didn't know if they would want to drink better be safe than sorry. I had all the bowls ready to plate once we finished the salads, and the cobbler was in the oven with the timer on. I dashed into the half bath on the first floor and checked my makeup and hair, still all set in place.
Allen, at last, made his first appearance since he sent me out to get dinner. He was styled with black slacks, and a solid blue button up with a thin black tie on. He had shaven, styled his hair a bit, cleaned up nicely. Suddenly my anxiety became overwhelmed if Allen would approve my my efforts today. "Kaylin, you look lovely," he praised while placing a gentle kiss on my forehead. I was in shock, by face betrayed me as Allen's eyes narrowed. As if he was trying to convey a message on why his behavior had shifted.
"Let us go see what delicious meal you've prepared for us tonight," he prompted, leading me towards the kitchen. He inspected everything and rubbed his hands together, "Looks amazing dear, now we just wait for our guest." As if on queue the doorbell rang. Following Allen to the door, my nerves grew in my stomach and chest. I wasn't sure how I would feel seeing this stranger again, would he mention our interaction this morning to Allen? I hoped it wasn't worth his notice, or I feared what Allen would do to me.
No amount of time could have prepared me for meeting those eyes again. That warm brown that seemed to have a hint of amber to them. My attention remained on the new comer until I heard my name being called, pulling me away from my thoughts.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Kaylin," his large hand was reaching for me, politely placing mine in his. Sparks then danced up my hand and arm instantly, quickly I withdrew trying to act natural. "I didn't come empty handed, for you Mr. Smith," he handed Allen a bottle of red wine, that would go great with our dinner. "And for the Misses," he opened a black box, containing a smile silver bracelet that had small little flowers of various colors all around. He removed from the box and held it up for my bare wrist to be placed in it. Unconsciously I gave him my arm, though remaining careful not to touch.
