Chapter
Scott
She still hadn't woken up, it's been 4 hours. Well 4 hours, 2 minutes, and 37 seconds...but who's counting. I promised her she didn't have to go back, that I would care for her, protect her, love her. Her heart started racing and her breathing became ragged, then she collapsed into me. I needed her, I didn't know what to do, so I called one of the few people I trust. Calvin.
I felt his presence, I headed to the door and quickly opened to reveal my oldest friend. He stood at 6 foot, he was muscular like me but still slight in size, his skin was tanned but natural, thanks to his Native American blood. His deep brown eyes scanned me, noticed my unusually tense mood.
"Where is she?" Calvin asked.
"Bedroom," was all I could choke out. I led him to the back of the penthouse. Opening the door I was attacked by my mates scent again. How do people get use to this? Each time hit me harder than the last. Calvin sat next to her on the bed, took her arm and placed a blood pressure cuff around her. Watching the cuff press into her skin killed me, I could see her skin drain of color, not that a human would notice. The hiss of air releasing caused Kaylin to stir.
"Sarah," she breathed. Who was Sarah?
"Does these fainting spells happen often?" Calvin asked is a whisper as to not to wake Kaylin. We heading to the open living room. Ceiling high windows pushing the light of the setting sun into the apartment. The white and gray room transforming into a orange temporally warm setting.
"I don't think so, this is the first time I've seen it. I only found her the day before yesterday," I admitted.
"Stress?" he fished for a reason. "It's common for humans bodies to wear out from the strain of the bond. Once you claim her, her body will be stronger, if she plans on remaining human," he tacked on. I didn't know the bond could drain her physically, was that it? Or was it Allen?
"I found out-I discovered parental abuse. I brought her here for safety," I painfully bit out. I fought to control myself, I wanted nothing more that to end Allen's life. He deserved to die for hurting my Soul. That wall was starting to look like a good close second.
"How bad?" he inquired carefully.
He knows how soulmates are protective of each other. Thinking about it makes me sick, how bad was it? I tried not to think about it, I mean how much had my mate gone through? What had Allen done to her?
"We won't know until she wakes," I shamefully admit. Only Kaylin had answers.
Allen
The pain in my face woke me up, what the fuck?! Last thing I remember is- Kaylin? Where was Kaylin? I jumped up and ran through the house searching for my daughter. Had they taken her? The house felt stale, how long had I been out?
Turning the corner I noticed the cracked wall beside the slightly open door, then it hit me. Scott. He did this, he was mad, he smelt Kaylin's blood. Damn whore obviously didn't clean well enough. Fucking worthless, he didn't know what I had truly done to her. If he knew I'd had her, I'd be dead. Mates can't control their anger, the fact I'm alive at all surprises me. Had Kaylin interrupted? She wouldn't allow Scott to kill me, who'd take care of her? No one. Scott will throw her away once he learns that she isn't pure. That she's already mine. My marks cover her, the scars alone prove that.
