Hunter

I was shocked when Scott called, my first instinct was that Kaylin was in danger. The thought was quickly dismissed since Jeremy and Lena were close by and the connection was quiet. He sounded strained, I wondered if he needed to feed again already, or maybe he was finally feeling the weight of our situation.

I quickly cleaned up the room, it was nearly finished anyway, just a few touch up spots. This was to be our room until we had a house, but with the revelation of last nights dinner we would be moving. It was hard to take in, I've devoted my life to this pack. It's home, was. Kaylin is my home now. Not only leaving this pack, but to be alphas. I held rank and power here, but to be leaders it was enough to cause a wave of nausea to hit me.

The sound of a car approaching pulled me back to finishing the last touches, the open windows lessened the smell so it'll be comfortable. I tugged on a new shirt before rushing to head down the stairs, my heart raced as I felt my Mate approach. Headlights peaked through the tree line and grew into mini suns as the gathered closer. Despite circumstances of why Scott called I couldn't help the smile that pushed its way into my face. The scent of my mate engulfed me, Bevan pushed his way to my side ready to greet his Mate as well.

Soon

Soon? What was he in about?

Scott parked the car, climbing out he gave me a look I couldn't read. He reached in the passenger side collecting a overly exhausted Kaylin and carrying her bridal style.

"Is she okay?" I asked with a strained voice.

"I have a suspicion that her wolf side is peaking through, which means on some level the mate bond is beginning to manifest on her side. She's exhausted but restless, her mind is so blurry, I can't read her," he sighed.

"What do we do?" it wasn't hard to not hate Scott. Honestly he was a great guy so far. Even had some common interest, mainly Kaylin. More so he was older and undoubtably wiser, calm enough to process the situation when my over heightened mind couldn't stop and read the moment.

"I suggest we get her to bed. Both of us," he paused. "Hopefully I'm correct, she'll rest, and tomorrow we can get her Aunt and Uncle over to check? I don't know, it's a odd situation with the magic and all," he rambled.

"Rooms mostly done, but habitable. Let's get her to bed," my smile returning. Sleeping with my mate in my arms was all I could ask for at the moment.

"I packed a small bag, it's in the car if you could get it?"

"Course," I jogged to the back retrieving the overnight bag. "This way, let's get our girl to bed."

Kaylin

The smell of fresh paint registered in my mind first. It seemed so odd and out of place, maybe a room next door was being touched up? Must be some powerful paint. The second thing I registered was the delicious sparks that danced on my back and leg that I had tucked under Scott. I wiggled deeper into the bed so content after being so restless when we went to bed.

Wait.

I know Scott's touch. If he's behind me, how do I feel something warm and solid under my cheek. I peaked a eye open to see Hunter's sleeping face. He looked so peaceful, almost looked younger as if the day aged him but he reverted at night.
