Chapter 16
The House on Friar Lane

We run through the bike path and arrive at a parking lot of an abandoned apartment building. The parking lot had a haunting feeling to it. There were a few vehicles parked, but all of them were either burned or had the windows broken. The apartment building looked just as damaged as the vehicles. I took notice of the massive section of the roof exposed.

We jumped down from the wooden ledge and walked to the street. We looked around and saw the place was quiet. We are surrounded by different apartment buildings. One building is much more fancier than the rest. The majority of the apartments have roofs that are either incomplete or just destroyed by some dinosaurs passing by. I can tell from the construction crane hooked onto a section of the roof lying on the ground.

Daric walks over to the rusty, green street post hanging around at the crosswalk. Daric wipes the rust from the post and it tells us where we are. We are standing in between Friar Lane and 16th street East. Barlic and I look down 16th Street East and saw another row of apartment buildings. There was another neighborhood on the other side. Daric looked down Friar Lane where there are family homes sitting up the hill.

"Hey boys, I think i've found something!" Daric called us.

Barlic and I got onto Friar Lane and found Daric in awe of what he discovered. What he found was something that I found very freaky. Daric found a house that looked very identical to mine. The house had ivory colored walls, a black roof with a white fence surrounding the front. In the front entrance was a wide window showing off the living room. I run to the ivory fence on the right side of the house and climbed up to see the back.

Just when I thought things couldn't get weird, this is where I thought I was back home. The backyard had a metal chainlink fence surrounded the back and it came with a pool and a children's playground. The entire jungle surrounds the house. Could I be hallucinating or am I actually seeing this house for myself?

I see a padlock on the gate and started to scroll the wheel to figure out the combination. I stopped when my patience in finding the combination is lost. I look around the area for tools, but they're locked away in the tool shed near the pool. I heard a charging yell coming from the other side and I stepped away from the gate. The gate breaks off the hinges and Daric lands on his face. I guess I'll settle for the human battering ram. Daric and Barlic look around the area and their frowns turned upside down from seeing the entire place.

"Wow now this is a house," Daric said. "A playground with a sand pit, a fire pit for outdoor fires, and a bloody pool? This just keeps on surprising me."

Daric and Barlic look around the house more surprises. I walk up to the sliding door to the living room and tried opening it. The door wouldn't open when I tried sliding it open. I look up to the top floor of the house and spotted a light coming from the window on the left of the top floor. Daric and Barlic joined me in looking at the window light glowing in the darkest of nights.

"The lights are on in there. Could be someone in there?" Barlic asked.

"Maybe those knobheads are setting up a trap." Daric commented.

"We don't know that for sure. All I know is that we'll find better shelter in there," I said.

I ran around to a white door leading into the garage. I start to dig into my pockets and found my lock pick kit. I begin to pick at the lock with my tools. Daric and Barlic stand aside as I make the effort. The process started to prove to be tedious. As I continue to work, Daric grows walking back and forth with impatience.

"Would you hurry up man?" Daric said. "I need to pee."

"Daric relax. This is a tedious process." Barlic told him. "Hold it in for a minute."
