Chapter 2

Cruise of a Life Time

Today is a beautiful day to be in the city of Los Angeles, California. The sun is out with the wind blowing through my hair as I drive down the highway to the dock. The day is as warm as the Grand Canyon. I parked the car in the nearby parking lot. I am feeling a bit nervous if I'm going to be completely nervous. This is my first time being on cruise ship. I not sure if I will be either sea sick or I'm just dehydrated. I opened the trunk of the car and grabbed my bag. Before heading into the check in booth, I closed the trunk. I walked to the entrance and surprisingly there was barely a long line. For example, when I went with my family for a spring break trip to Orlando, the airport was packed. I walked to the front desk and checked in.

"Good evening." said the ship dock officer who checks for passports.

" Good evening." I replied back.

" May I see your passport?" he asked.

" of course," I pulled my passport out of my pocket and gave it to him." here you go."

He took the passport and opened it to see if the information is right on. He checks my bag and me to see if I have anything that could be dangerous. I never carried a live weapon on me in my life, so I should be clear to go. I wait patiently for the officer to give me the signal to move ahead. I noticed that one of my friends Stephen is over on the other side, waiting in line. I could tell from the dark blue jacket he was always wearing since Sophomore year in high school.

"Alright sir, you're good to go," said the officer.

"Thank you. " I responded.

I walked over to Stephen and poked him in the shoulder. His long, dark brown, bowl shaped hair moved and I started to be sneaky on him. His dark blue eyes missed the target. His skin is as pale as a modern vampire. He looked to the left to see who's there. I crouched down and sneaked behind him. He turned back and that is when my que is. I jumped up and scared him. He screamed and luckily he didn't punch me in the arm like my older brother does. My older brother is named Jeremiah and he is the only one in my family to have a weight lifting background. As I laughed, he takes a breath to relax.

"Holy shit dude, you almost gave me a heart attack. " he said inhaling some air.

"Yeah, you should've seen the look on your face." I laughed. "I'm glad to see you are coming with."

"Yeah, thank you for the invitation." He said politely. "How are you feeling?

"I'm fine." I replied. "I'm feeling a little nervous, but I have high hopes we'll find Allie."

"Of course we will." Stephen said. "I mean how can the news know about the casualties if the footage was doctored. Sounds kind of fishy, don't you think?"

"That's why I can always count on you my friend." I complimented. "We'll keep searching the place even if it kills us."

"Definitely." Stephen agreed. "Besides I always wanted to go to Hawaii at this time in the year."

I heard the noise of a ship's horn and Stephen looks at the clock to see that our cruise ship is going to leave in eight minutes.

"Oh crap " Stephen said.

"We gotta go." I said quickly.

Stephen and I started running through the hallway of the dock. I see the outside entrance to the ship and decided to go for it. Since I barely know the ship dock, Stephen pulled my backpack to go up to the upper deck. We run upstairs and made it to the guard to check in with the ship. We pulled out our tickets from our pockets and gave it to the usher. He looked at the tickets and looked up at us with relief.

"You're right on time gentlemen, welcome aboard." the usher said.

We boarded the ship with excitement and laughed that we made it on time.

"We are the luckiest people in the world you know that." I said with excitement.

We ran to the upper deck of the cruise ship. Since I am a runner, I was the one leading him to the top of the port side. As I looked out from the port side of the ship, the city from here seemed smaller than usual. I felt a sudden thud as if the ship had hit something. It appears that the ship has started moving and the anchor has been raised. Stephen and I looked down and saw that we're moving. All of the sudden, everyone from the lower deck waved goodbye to their loved ones. Now this definitely reminds me of that scene from Titanic. As the crowd slowly fades into the ship, Stephen poked me in the arm.

"Shall we find a room to sleep in for the five days? " Stephen asked.

"Yeah, I suppose we shall find one of those nice rooms." I responded.

We started to head down to the lower deck and we came across an elevator that is heading down to the lobby. The elevator has a glass frame with a black ceiling with bright gold details. The floor is like a limestone texture. I pressed the button to guide the elevator down to the lobby. In an odd way, instead of glowing white, the buttons glowed blue. Slowly the elevator takes its time to move down to the lobby.

The lobby was the most grand place in this ship. Dark wooden railings, dark wooden pillars and a golden hallway. The walls are painted with a Golden background along with a tan patterns going all the way down. The elevator stops at the lobby. What I haven't seen in a ship is it's grand stair case. They had golden statues of cupids drawing their bows.

"How did they make those?" I asked Stephen.

"Maybe it's just gold paint." He joked.

I saw the check in desk in front of the desk. I walked to the desk and all of the sudden I hit my hip on the pot with a beautiful plant.

"Are you alright?" Stephen asked while laughing.

"Yeah I'm okay, I just didn't know that this ship has large pots like this " I said.

"Sure, " he looked at me with a joking look.

We arrived at the front desk and the clerk looks at us. The clerk had shiny, blonde hair, eyes that match Stephens, and bright skin that Stephen finds attractive. She looked about eighteen years old.

"Good evening gentlemen, how may I help you" The clerk said.

"We came to check into a room." I said.

We gave her our names and she made sure we were checked in for a room. She gave us our room keys.

"Alright gentlemen, you have room# 523 on the top two floors, "the clerk said.

" Thank you miss... Veronica, " Stephen said in a husky way. "Have a nice day."

I turned to walk to the elevator laughing in my head. Stephen looked back to me looking curious.

"What so funny?" He asked curiously.

" I see you're in love with her " I said.

"What? I even left her my phone number on the desk." He looked at me wide-eyed.

" Oh Stephen, there's more to getting a girlfriend than giving her your number. Believe it takes a while to form that bond." I advised.

We walked into the elevator and I pressed the button to the fifth floor. As the elevator starts moving up, I keep thinking to myself. " this is going to be the best moment of my life."
