Chapter 26

The Gates Of Xibalba

After countless hours of riding through the jungle, I finally came across the entrance to the secret lair of the Enigma Corporation. The entrance was a large cave about twelve feet high and thirty four feet wide. Inside, I see a horrifying red light glowing as if there is something hot burning inside. The smell of burning wood is leaving an unsettling taste. A high pitched scream is echoing throughout the screen followed by multiple cracks of the whip. I sure hope the others are still alive. We are two trucks ahead of the check-in point. Who knows what could be happening to them right now I thought.

I look back to the path and see one car is driving into the cave. There are two mercenaries checking in on both sides of the road. They have telephone shaped scanners that shoot out a red laser to scan the identification cards. Identification cards? This is not how I thought this is going to go. I look around the drivers seat and my suit for an identification pass. I opened the pouch located on my chest and found the identification card. I roll down the window and held onto the identification card. As the truck ahead of us drives into the cave, I start to hear my heart beating rapidly in my ears.

"What is your operation?" the mercenary asked.

"To apprehend any enemies of the establishment and send them into for conversion," I responded. "I have captured a total of twelve of them."

"Let me see your identification," the mercenary demanded.

I move my hand out of the window and handed over the white card. The mercenary takes the identification card and scans the card with the scanner. A second mercenary joins him in the process of scanning the card. I start to sweat with fear as my hand reaches for my pistol on my right leg. I unclipped the strap on the holster and slowly pull it out. Before I know, I see a green light glowing from the scanner. The mercenary hands back the card to me.

"Nice to see you again, subject 1276," the mercenary said. "You may proceed."

I roll up the window of the truck and pull back on the stick. I press my foot on the accelerator and drove into the cave. I drove down into a steep hill where the entire truck is consumed by a pathway of red smoke. The path curved upwards and I feel the truck being dragged onto something. I realize that I have driven onto a moving platform. Up ahead, there is a bright light. I turn to the back door of the truck and slid it open to see they haven't moved a muscle.

"What's happening out there?" Iktan asked.

"We are inside the base," I informed him. "Everything is falling through as planned."

I close the door and watch as the light grows bigger. As the platform continues to pull the truck forward, the light becomes much larger as the red smoke fades away. The light turns out to be a large scale factory. The entire factory is surrounded by ivory colored walls with black marble pillars holding the entire roof above us. Running along the ceiling are a series of catwalks where the snipers are scouting the area.

There are manufacturers, dressed in lab coats and safety goggles, performing different tasks all around us. On my left side, the manufacturers are crafting more armor and weapons. On my right, the manufacturers are fixing the damaged vehicles. I look ahead and there is a shredder for useless or damaged items. Up ahead is an operations tower towering above the entire work place. I turn to my right and see an open door leading a set of stairs.

All of the sudden, the platform stops moving and sends the truck sliding down. The truck lines up perfectly with the line of damaged trucks. I grab my assault rifle from the passenger seat and jump out of the truck. A ground of mercenaries come up to me and line up facing each other. They raise their hands into a salute, but for who? Walking down between them is Emmott Barin himself.
