Chapter 22

The everflowing river

We ride down the river as the fog starts to consume the boat. The green, stagnant water in the river is taking the boat deep into the jungle. Daric is sitting at the wheel trying to see what is on the other side of the fog. Barlic turns on the head lights, but its not proving to be any good to see what is ahead. I look to the back and everyone is digging around their bags to find any supplies for the surviving the trip home. I look in my bag and I see that I have the following items:

- 1 Flashlight

- 1 box of matches

- 2 steel canteens

- 1 granola bar

- 2 magazines for my Barrett m468 assault rifle

- 3 magazines for my Pendulum fs-95 pistol

- 1 magazine for an AR-31 .308 Winchester Bolt Action Rifle

- 1 medkit

- 2 Bandage wraps

- 1 black sweatshirt

I look back at the passengers in the back and saw some of them looking exhausted from the intensity of the chase from earlier. I get up from my seat to check up on everyone. I started out by walking toward the front where Daric and Barlic are sitting. They both appeared to be okay and good on supplies. Then I moved to the next room where Albert, Grant, and Kacela are sitting.

"How are you guys doing." I asked.

"Tired. That Carnotaur attack almost gave me a heart attack." Kacela commented. "In other words, we're ok."

"Hey Brian, back at the city I found these box of rounds," Grant tells me.

Grant hands me a box of bullets and grabbed the box to analyze what is inside. It is a small, red cardboard box filled with chrome bullets. I grabbed one of the bullets from the box and see that it is big enough to fit into a Barrett m468 rifle. The bullet is chrome from the shell to the I'm not entirely sure what this bullet is capable of in terms of stopping power.

"Judging from the label on the back, it says that it has the stopping power to kill in one shot," Grant informs me. "If you need anything else, just let me know."

"Thanks Grant." I told him.

"By the way, I need some rounds for this sniper rifle," Albert told me. "Do you have any?"

"Good thing I still have a clip for that rifle," I told him.

I pull out the magazine from my back pack and hand it over to him. Jachin takes the magazine and observes it. He throws out the dry magazine from the rifle and throws it into the lake. He loads the new magazine in its place. He pulls back on the sliding mechanism and the first round is moved into the chamber. He sets the rifle on safety and slings the rifle on his back. He looks back up at me with relief.

"This is perfect," Albert tells me. "Thank you."

I moved further back to the next row where Godfrey and Marvina are sitting together. Godfrey was showing Marvina something on a notebook he has. I kneeled down to the ground and saw the he is showing her his drawings. Godfrey's drawings are impressive in terms of creating both figure sketching and landscapes. He flips through the pages and shows more of his art work and reveals some of his paintings. It turns out, he is quite the artist after all.

"Wow, that is very impressive Godfrey." Marvina said.

"Thanks," Godfrey replied. "I've been practicing more of my landscaping lately. So far, I managed to pull off the sun setting on the horizon in this drawing."
