Chapter 25

Parabellum

Out of the darkness of my unconscious state, I feel my heart struggling to pump up blood again. Whatever is pushing down on my chest, it is pulling me up from the brink of annihilation. My heart starts to beat rapidly as if I am being dragged up to a bright light. I cough out the water coming from my body and awaken to another location. As I awoke, my energy has been brought back to its full potential.

I woke up on a wooden ship deck with a blanket giving me comfort. I turn around to see the university and the helipad standing a few feet above me. I got myself up from the wooden floor and looked out into the distance. I see the elevator explode sending the entire building to fall into the ocean. The sun is almost fading into the horizon. How the hell did I end up here? I turn to my left and my answer has been revealed.

A group of Mayan warriors are looking straight into my eyes. All of them are drenched from swimming in the ocean. I remember seeing them back in the aquarium, but it was right before I fell unconscious. Out from the crowd, I hear some ground shaking foot steps getting louder and louder after each step. I look over the crowd with a recognizable figure moving through the crowd. The chief of the Mayan empire. Kabil.

"P'at a paajtal in in máak. Apartar a," Kabil said. "Brian of Alwin, it is so nice to see you still alive with us."

"Yeah," I replied. "How are you still alive? I watched you die when they invaded the city."

"I am Iktan," He corrected. "Kabil was my brother."

"Wait... You're his brother?" I asked.

"Yes," He replies. "While you were getting the ship ready, I was sent out to hunt for some fish. When we got back, our home was in flames. We looked through the entire jungle to find whoever is responsible, but we were unfortunate. It was until we saw the bright light coming from the mountain tops over there. You are very fortunate that we found you just in time before the entire structure collapsed."

"Yeah, thank you for that," I told him. " I don't mean to be straight forward, but I need some weapons. There is not much I can offer in return, but uh..."

"Planning to attack the steel beasts alone?" Iktan interrupted.

"You know of them." I stated.

"My people have been defending themselves from them for three years," He tells me. "Why are they here? Why did roam this island?"

"They are looking for the Yooperlite stone," I told him.

"Ba'ax puksi'ik'al le prehistoria?" He asked.

"My friends are being held captive," I inform him. "With the stone, he is planning on returning to the main land. Once he's there, he will take power for himself and kill all those who rebel against him."

"If they take the stone off the island, we are all dead," Iktan informs me. "Eleven thousand years ago, chief Yaluk discovered the stone you wielded. A stone of unimaginable power. It brought forth these creatures from the depths of Xibalba. Until they attacked our people. He locked the stone away in a jade vessel and buried it into the heart of the island. This place became evil, cursed by the plague of the creatures. The steel beasts must not leave the island. If they unleash the power of the stone."

"We won't have much time now, do we?" I asked.

"No," He replied. "We can't attack in the open with their numbers being greater than ours."

"Wait a minute, I have an idea," I told him.

I turn to the university and look up to the university. I start to speed walk through the crowd and walk through the wooden door below the helipad. As I enter the room, the floor changed materials from stone, to an ivory colored concrete floor. The place has white, marble walls with hazel wooden pillars holding it up. Up ahead was the student center, with two sets of staircases on both sides leading up to the second floor. The place is nicely lit with the power still running for so long.
