Chapter 20

The Flame In The Night

The ride back the house proved to be the coldest ride ever. I feel the temperature drop in the wind as we ride through the town. I started to shiver from the wind and my arms are covered in goosebumps. The rest of the group is right behind us following our every direction. We turn to the neighborhood and saw that nothing has changed since the last time we were there. The crane hanging above the apartment building is still there. The cars in the parking lots never moved an inch. As we pulled up to the driveway, I see the lights are on through the windows.

I hop down from the bike and she sets the motorcycle to the side. The truck pulls up onto the drive way and stops. Grant turns off the ignition of the truck and the group jumped out from the back. They turn around and started to awe with wonder. Everyone is amazed to finally stay in a really nice house for once. Some of them decided to check out the tree with pink pedals in the front yard. Ed smiled at the house as well with his hands down at his hips.

"This is glorious man," Ed said. "This sure beats the apartment."

"Shall we?" I asked pointing towards the door.

Everyone of the group decided to follow me into the house. I pushed open the red door and held it open for them. They start walking inside the house and looks around at what the house has to offer. Albert, Grant, and Ed walk over to the kitchen to dig through the drawers for food and drinks. Ian steps outside and leans against the backyard railing smoking a cigarette. Red, Kaytlyn, and Kacela walk downstairs into the basement. Marvina looks out the window and spots the large pool in the back yard. She looks to her left and spotted a circular hot tub.

"Is that a hot tub?" Marvina asked.

"It sure is, Marvina," Allie replied. "In case you are interested, the pool is twelve feet deep."

"Pool night anyone?" Ed asked.

Ed, Marvina, and Stephen started running outside and jumps into the deep end of the pool. Marvina pushed the hot tub cover aside and climbs in. I walk up to the dining room and saw Barlic coming down stairs to see Grant and Albert in the kitchen. Barlic runs down and greets them both with bro hugs. Daric came out of his room with nothing, but a bath robe and slippers and a vodka bottle in his hands.

"Brian, you're back," Daric shouted. "How was that date?"

Daric turns to the kitchen and see Albert and Grant sitting at the island table. Daric reacts with joy to see them again with a hug. They both react in horror to see Daric's bare, shaggy chest revealed through the robe. Grant and Albert start running running outside in embarrassment with the robes tie falls out revealing that he is in his underwear. He chases them all the way to the pool where he pulls them in to the pool. Barlic and I laugh hysterically by the sliding door. I found it humorous having to witness such an unusual incident.

"Oh brother, sometimes he goes little comical when he's sozzled," Barlic commented. "I haven't seen him this delighted during their wedding."

"Yeah, tell me about it," I spoke in a disheartened tone.

"You seem disheartened, what's up your bum?" Barlic asked.

"We had found a way to go home," I told him. "There was a ship resting on the shores of the Mayan city. The ship was large enough to carry all of us home. It is too late for that now. Those Enigma Corporation bastards lit it up and watched it burn. There is nothing we can do about it."

"Don't lose your bottle of finding a way out bruv." Barlic told me. "Life can be a pain in the arse sometimes. It's true. The only way to overcome such an obstacle is by following your heart, not your mind. Do you remember your search for Allie? I saw the look of hope in your eyes when you talked about her. I'm sure she was the happiest lady on the planet to see you again."
