Chapter 24

Setting The Balance

The path towards the aquarium was a path that took an excruciatingly long time to climb up. When I managed to climb up the rock wall towering above the trees, I realize how difficult of a journey it is going to be. The reason I say that is because the building in the mountain is sitting across from the hill we just scaled. Between us was a large gap of ocean water swarming the rocks. There is no bridge to help get us to the other side more efficiently. We continue the journey up the hill.

As we continued to climb, I start to feel that seconds have turned into minutes. The hill is so steep that I start to feel my knees are about to give out. Sweat was starting to flow down my forehead as I take this painstaking trip. My head is aching in pain. I turn back to see the others are starting to fall behind. I pull out my canteen from my pouch and saw that it is nearly empty. I look back ahead and saw that the building is just half a mile away.

"Hold up guys," I said. "Lets take a thirty minute break. Stay together."

Everybody started to sit down against the trees and pulled out their water bottles. Some of the campers have pulled out their snacks to go along with the drinks. I unscrew the cap and drink whatever is left in the canteen. Despite its time in being in my pouch, I am still surprised that it is still cool and refreshing. I lay my back against the tree and managed to find a good amount of air flowing in the shade. Allie, Stephen, Daric, and Grant scooted over to me and huddled into a strange circle.

"How are we doing?" Allie asked.

"I'm fine, just a little dehydrated," I said. "How is everyone else?"

"Most of the campers have run out of water," Grant replied. "If we don't find some water soon, we won't last the next day."

"What about the river we were just in?" Daric offered.

"That's not a good idea." Stephen told him.

"Oh and why not?" Daric asked.

"If you drink water that is green, or stagnant like that, you'll end up losing more water than you would actually gain." Stephen tells him. "The same applies to ocean water and your own urine."

"He's right. We need to smart about this." Grant said.

"Let's search around the area for fresh water." Grant said before we broke off.

Allie and I started to walk toward the building. Stephen and Albert were on the far left while Daric and Grant go in the far right. Out of nowhere, I hear Stephen scream as if he fell into something. I ran as fast as I can to they're location. When the sight of Grant comes in, I start to slow down to see a shocking discovery. Stephen has fell into a large pond of water. His clothes are completely soaked and his hair has been pulled down. He drinks the water and he is relieved.

"Yes! Fresh water." Stephen said.

"Oi what happened?" Daric asked.

"Stephen found us some fresh water." I told him.

The rest of the group joined us around the pool of fresh water and jumped in. We start to drink and store water in our canteens. When my bottle is filled, I placed the cap back on the canteen and put it in my pouch. In doing so, I heard a noise coming from the under brush. I pull out my bow from my sling and loaded an arrow onto the sinew. The bushes started moving again, but this time the sound was coming from my left. I feel the cold air starting to crawl up my spine as if there is more than one of them.

I see the bushes moving again on the right side. I am starting to sense that there is more than one of them lurking in the underbrush. What could this creature be? A howler monkey? A pig? or another rally of mercenaries from the Enigma Corporation? My sights are locked onto the creature in the bushes and it turns out to be not what I'd expected. Out of the bushes came a strange looking dinosaur. The creature lifts its head out of the bushes and we look in shock to see it.
