Aubrey’s feet had carried her to the choir room. She hadn’t realized this until she was walking in front of the doorway. Her intake of breath was sharp and unsteady as Harry’s perfect green eyes pierced into her own. Aubrey’s heart beat so rapidly it physically hurt her. Please, please. Aubrey wordlessly begged, not entirely sure what she was pleading for. She was in awe of him as he took tentative steps towards her. Her attention turned back to her heart as it continued to hammer away relentlessly. Aubrey was entranced as his lovely green orbs bore into her own. He held Aubrey’s chin and then leaned in and pressed his lips to hers. She was lost in him. They momentarily broke apart and he whispered breathily, “Aubrey.” She kissed him tenderly once more and replied, “Harry.”
He took her hand into his own and pulled her into the choir room, shutting the door behind them. Harry leaned against the piano with Aubrey about a yard in front of him. He studied her for a moment before speaking, “Why did you come here again?” He seemed bewildered.
“I um…I just,” Aubrey was at a loss for words. She couldn’t tell him he was the reason. He stepped forward and pulled her into his chest. She breathed in his scent, his close proximity calming her.
“It’s ok love. I just have never had anyone hear me sing before.”
“You’re really good.” Aubrey praised mutely.
“Thank you.” Harry whispered. She could see he didn’t believe her.
“I mean it.” She said sincerely. He smiled.
“Can I ask you one last thing?”
“Yeah, sure.”
“I'd really like to get to know you better. Will you go out with me tonight?”
“Yes.” A grin lit up Aubrey’s face as she agreed without thinking about it.
She’d spent all the classes previous to English writing in her journal. She walked straight to her desk to continue doing so when it was time for English to start. Marie and Lilly soon interrupted her. “Hey what’s going on? What did we miss?” Marie questioned, seeing how overjoyed Aubrey was.
“Harry asked me out tonight and kissed me.” Her heart swelled at saying this.
“Oh my God. Aubrey! That’s fantastic!!!” Lilly gushed. Aubrey ripped her eyes away from the paper to grin broadly at her friends. She turned away to see Harry walk in the room. He winked at her, causing her to swoon. Once he sat down, she turned back to her friends.
“Wow.” Marie said being slightly sarcastic. They both turned to go to their desks as the bell rang.
Harry took glances at Aubrey throughout class and smiled when he saw how absorbed she was in what she was writing. Harry recalled seeing Aubrey with the journal everywhere she went. What does she write about? God I would kill to read it. I doubt she’d let me though. He ruminated her writing the rest of the day. He knew exactly where he was taking her tonight.
“I really think you’re going to like the place…at least I hope you do.” Harry told Aubrey as they drove. He had refused to tell her where they were going. She grabbed his hand and rubbed circles with her thumb on his, she could see he was nervous.
“I’m sure I will.”
“You look so beautiful.” Aubrey blushed at his compliment.
“Thank you. You look very handsome, yourself.” He chuckled in response. He parked the car on the side of the road. The building before them was red brick with ivy running up its sides. A bell dinged as they entered the shop. Thousands of books were set on shelves. The shop’s aroma was that of printed pages and coffee beans. Aubrey was enchanted by the cozy place.
“It’s so lovely here! I could stay here for hours.” Aubrey gushed, pecking him on the cheek.
“I thought you would like it.” He grinned at her. Harry kept his gaze on Aubrey as she wandered through the aisles looking through all the book titles.
Suddenly she grabbed a book off the shelf: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, flipped to the given page without hesitation and read, ‘‘‘Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.’ You should get this one.” Harry was in awe of Aubrey and the passion in her eyes as she read.
He kissed her temple gently and said, “I will.” Harry felt himself continuing to fall for Aubrey the longer he watched her. Aubrey was positive that she indeed fancied him, as she felt his caring gaze on her the entire night.
“Do you want to become an author?” Harry questioned when they were nearing the end of the rows of books.
“I do, very much so. Why do you ask?”
“I know you carry that notebook around with you and I’ve seen you writing in it regularly. Plus you get this gleam in your eyes when you talk about fictional characters, so I thought you might.” Aubrey’s heart warmed knowing that Harry had noticed these things. She beamed at him. After finishing looking through the rest of the books Harry paid for all the books they each had picked out, despite Aubrey's protests, and strolled through the small town before driving home.
“I had a wonderful time tonight,” Aubrey spoke sincerely, as they sat parked in front of her house.
“I’m glad. I did too.” Harry leaned over and kissed her. The kiss had begun slowly but Aubrey soon felt electricity cover her skin.
“Goodnight Harry.” Aubrey said as she pulled away.
“Night love.”
