Niall's fingers shook as he tried to write the solution for one of the equations they were assigned for homework. He pressed the pencil's lead firmly against the paper and drew a line. He was extremely frustrated when he found that he couldn't seem to draw a straight line due to the nonstop tremor in his hands. He grunted feeling agitated. His head fell back and he rubbed his eyes as he tried to clear his head.
He knew he screwed up when he kissed Aubrey. He just needed someone. Chaise's absence was everywhere he looked. Aubrey allowed him to temporarily forget and that's exactly what he needed. He had fought the urge to do a line for an entire week three days before the group went to the movies. That night his feelings for Aubrey overwhelmed him. He hurt, for both the girls he fell for he couldn't have. He sought the serenity cocaine induced. He craved that escape again now more than ever. The withdrawal symptoms weren't worth suffering, especially when he knew exactly where he had stashed a plastic bag of the drug.
Never before had he felt so alone in the world. He had messed up his relationship with Aubrey, Harry, and probably all the other boys with that one action. The urge to grab the bag and slip into a more oblivious state was all consuming and nearly impossible to resist when he was alone in so many ways.
Harry, Aubrey, and Louis sat curled up on Louis's couch. Aubrey's body was oriented towards Louis and she listened intently to Louis tell the story of how in primary school he was nearly kicked out for a prank he pulled. Harry frowned when seeing Aubrey's eyes trained on Louis. Her enchanting laugh escaped her and Harry's lips pulled up at the sound. They fell back into a pout when he saw Louis watching Aubrey with an apparent care in his liquid ocean blue eyes. Jealousy rippled through him, she was his not Louis's or Niall's or anyone other than his for that matter. The longer he watched the more jealousy gnawed on him.
Maybe he was paranoid because of what happened with Niall, but he simply didn't care. As they stood and Aubrey began pulling on her coat Harry spoke, "Aubrey, I have to talk to Louis for a minute. I'll meet you in the car."
"Ok...?" She made it sound like question, but she didn't push him to explain. As soon as she turned and walked out the door Harry whipped around to face Louis.
"What the hell mate? What do you think you're doing?"
"What are you on about?" Louis questioned looking confused.
"You need to back off of Aubrey!" His cheeks were flushed with anger and his voice was deeper than usual as he yelled.
"I haven't done anything. What are you talking about?"
"That's a load."
"Just because Niall went and made out with her, doesn't mean I'm going to. She's nice enough, but I'm not into...her."
"You couldn't even say that without hesitating!"
"Jesus Harry! I DON'T LIKE GIRLS!" A deathly silent moment passed.
"Wait. What?" Harry asked feeling baffled.
"I'm gay! I don't have an interest in Aubrey." Louis huffed.
"Shit. I'm really sorry Lou." His head fell, his curls hanging downward. He grunted in frustration. Louis lifted his chin and tried to burn the gorgeous color of Harry's eyes into his memory. Then when looking in each other's eyes, nothing mattered apart from the two of them. They could only see each other, only feel each other's skin, only smell the other's cologne, only hear each other's booming heart beats...and abruptly taste each other's lips.
Harry didn't think, his lips responded to Louis's without a conscious decision to do so. It was a different kind of kiss than Harry had ever had. It was passionate and full of pure desire. Sanity was found in Louis's kiss. His lips were Harry's sanctuary.
Aubrey tapped her foot on the floor of the car, a nervous habit she had always had. The minutes ticked by slowly as she waited for Harry to return. She contemplated whether she should check on him or not, she had heard the boom of him yelling as she closed the door behind her. After nearly ten minutes of waiting in the car she made her way back towards Louis's front door. She opened it slowly and peered around it to find Louis and Harry snogging. They were oblivious to her presence. It was only when she gasped in shock that they broke apart.
Louis's eyes fluttered open slowly and the boys both appeared dazed. "W-what-?" Aubrey felt as if she might implode from being overloaded. This was too much for her.
"Aubrey!" Harry said as if he suddenly recalled her existence. Her head throbbed as she processed the scene that was before her. She was suffocated by the tension in the room. Everything seemed to be closing in on her. She sprinted from the room and to her car. After a moment Harry chased after her, but she was already disappearing down the street by the time he got outside. He sunk down on the steps leading to Louis's house, totally bewildered at what had just happened.
