Aubrey sat on her window ledge watching the heavy snowflakes hurriedly falling to the ground. It was quickly compiling, adding to the snow that had been falling all week. The sleeves of her maroon sweater covered her hands. Music played softly from her stereo. She was content. She felt whole.

Her phone broke her trance as it rang. She smiled as she saw Chaise's contact. "Hello girly!" She greeted warmly.

"Hey! I was wondering if you and Harry might want to come with me to go enjoy the snow? Niall can't come because he and Louis are hanging out for the afternoon."

"That's a wonderful idea! I'll call Harry and ask."

"'Kay, let me know!" Harry seemed elated about them going out in the snow, when Aubrey informed him of Chaise's idea. She called Chaise back to let her know, "Harry's in! You should meet us at my place so we can go sled down this hill nearby."

"Alright! I'll see you soon."

When Chaise and Harry arrived, they all changed into snow pants and other winter gear. Aubrey was distracted by how cute Harry looked all bundled up. Aubrey left the room to grab her hat.

"I'm going to leave my phone on the coffee table so I don't get it wet, don't let me forget it!" Harry called to her.

Aubrey placed her phone on top of his when she returned.

"Good idea," She murmured.

"You guys ready to go?" Chaise asked.

"Yup." They trudged out into the snow. Harry carried sleds for them to use when they arrived at the hill. They trekked through the forest until they finally reached the now frozen pond that Harry had first shown Aubrey. About 25 yards from the pond lay their destination.

"Let's slide over the pond!" Chaise proposed, her eyes bright with excitement. Aubrey and Harry were pulled onto the ice before they could respond. He dropped their sleds on the ground on the way. Chaise released their hands and slid to the bank to the side of them. Harry turned to Aubrey. He grasped one of her petite hands and cupped her cheek with his other hand. Gazing at each other, Harry sang quietly, White lips, pale face, breathing in the snowflakes. Aubrey grinned at him. She loved when he sang.

Harry rested one hand on her lower back and entwined their fingers, with their elbows bent upwards. Aubrey placed her free hand on his shoulder. They danced to Harry's humming, continuing the song he previously started singing. They were completely enveloped in their own world as Chaise moved towards the center of the pond. Harry released one of Aubrey's hands as she spun outward and then pulled her back into him.

Her giggling was cut off abruptly by the sound of ice cracking. Chaise's startled shriek pierced the air. Their heads whipped towards the sound. Harry’s arms slackened around Aubrey in shock. She tore towards the hole that Chaise had created. Nothing was in her mind, apart from reaching Chaise. A set of strong arms wrapped around her waist. "Chaise!" Aubrey desperately shouted. She struggled fiercely in Harry’s grasp. Uncontrollable sobs ripped through her core and echoed through the forest.

"Aubrey! Listen you're going to fall through too if you go over to her. Stay at the bank!"

Her brain was incapable of processing what he was doing as he sprinted away from the pond. Her chest continued to heave as strangled cries escaped. Pain consumed her. The ticking seconds that Chaise could go without oxygen were slipping away. Sitting there helplessly was the worst form of torture. She couldn’t lose anyone else. She'd already lost so much. Things had finally started to be ok.

Time didn't make sense anymore. She recalled that on average a person could survive four and a half minutes without breathing. She had no idea how long Chaise had been immersed under water. The time must be near that she would suffocate.

There was no way Harry would be able to call 911 and have them get there in time. Aubrey began to accept that when more time passed. She was terrified and by herself. She wanted Harry to come back. She wanted Chaise to come back. She couldn’t handle being alone with her now dead friend's body at the bottom of the once lovely pond. Aubrey slipped into darkness just as Harry's frame came sprinting towards her and approaching sirens sounded.

*Author's Note: MUCH THANKS TO EVERY ONE OF YOU READING THIS! I JUST REACHED 500 READS ON THIS STORY! I updated the cast because Jasmine Van den Bogaerde/Birdy(her stage name) is exactly who I picture as Aubrey.  The song Harry was singing/humming to Aubrey was "The A Team" and is attached on the side bar. I'm really excited for Ed Sheeran's announcement on January 6th! I love him; his music is incredible. Please vote, comment, and message me! Sorry it's a cliffhanger.*
