Chapter 8: Twisted Memories

February 10th, 4:43pm.

Melody and Zane were walking home from the park. There was a clear sky, and the sun was out, so they had decided to walk to and from the park. Zane looked down at Melody, and seemed to be in thought, she she didn't disrupt him, until...

Melody's heart nearly stopped. Standing right there in front of them, only a couple yards away, was Jackson. He wore an expressionless face, he was wearing his black leather jacket, ripped blue jeans, and messy brown hair. He had an unshaven face and one hand in his pocket. Melody was able to manage a gasp and stopped, hiding behind Zane.

Zane evaluated the situation, then held Melody's hand, assuring her of her safety.

"How on earth did you escape jail, Jackson?!"

"Doesn't matter. I'm here to relief you of your job as Melody's guardian."

"You can't have her!"

Jackson just smiled titling his head slightly."Let me rephrase that," he pulled his head back into position, pulling out a handgun. "Give me back my daughter, or else."

"You're a lunatic to think I'd ever let you near her!"

Jackson shot Zane, but not only once, and not only in his forearm. Jackson also shot him right through his chest and head. Melody screamed as he fell backwards, eyes open in terror. His bullet wounds were clean, and were causing immense blood loss. Blood began pooling around his body. Melody began crying hot, salty tears. Jackson grabbed her arms, dragging her away. She cried and cried for Zane, however, he lay there, breathless and motionless, the blood now dripping into the gutter the pool was getting bigger fast.

"Let me go!" Melody cried.

"Melody, wake up!" Aphmau's voice came from Jackson's mouth. Melody was confused at first, but then she woke up.

Melody jolted awake gasping. She was in a cold sweat, tears streaming down her eyes. Zane, Aphmau, Katelyn, Kawaii~Chan, Laurence, Dante, Garroth, Vlyad, Lucinda, and Alexis were crowded around her worriedly in the dark living room. It had been a boys and girls slumber party, the boys were supposed to sleep in the basement, and the girls in the living room. Melody's heart was going light speed and her breathing was uneven.

"Are you okay?!" Alexis asked.

"What happened?" Garroth added.

"You're awake!" exclaimed Katelyn.

"Thank goodness!" Kawaii~Chan sighed in relief.

"Don't worry, you're okay now, it was just a dream." Zane told her softly.

"Papa!" She ran to him, so happy to see him still alive. "Thank Irene you're okay!" She cried unto his pajama shirt.

"Of course I'm okay, Sweet pea, It's you we're worried about!"

"I, had a nightmare..."

"Another? W-what happened this time?"

"It, it was the day we were walking home from my lessons, a-and, he, he s-shot you...not just the one time, but three! He shot your head and heart too! He, he killed you!" She cried. Everyone exchanged surprised and concerned expressions.

"It wasn't real, remember? Jackson is in prison, and that was just a dream."

"Papa, can, can I sleep with you tonight? I'm scared..."

"Of course. And in the morning, we can go see someone about these nightmares, okay?"

"Okay..."

Zane took Melody with him into the basement, where all the others would sleep too. Zane was given the spare bed anyways, but he tucked Melody in under all the covers, and then he just slept under the top blanket. Melody was asleep again after about half an hour and Zane drifted off to sleep as well.
