To The Drive-In

Alexia's POV

It's the first day of summer, school's out and Soda, Darry and Steve still work. But it don't bother me none. Tonight we're all gonna go to a drive-in, we're bringing two trucks. So we can either sit in the trucks or at the seating area. I might just go around with Two-bit and Steve and bug the couples. I heard Kaylee and Soda are now dating. I am not close with them like that, I feel Two-bit more of a brother. He looks out for me and I appreciate that a lot. Knowing someone doesn't want anything to happen to me at all.

No one has seen Kaylee or Beth since last night. They left on their boards and never came back. Soda, Sidney and Ponyboy are flipping out about them leaving. The rest of us are keeping our cool so we don't look like idiots running around town looking for a14 and 15 year old. Keep your cool, I know they'll be back.

Anyway, its been hard for me. With my sister gone and all that. I am just better at keeping my emotions hidden and not breaking down. Kaylee has twice and she tried killing herself the second time. I haven't broken down and some are surprised. But that's because I cry alone in my room at night when Camille's not there. I sat on the couch and waited with the others for Soda, Dally and Steve to come back from looking for Kaylee and Elizabeth.

Kaylee's POV

Beth and I woke up this morning feeling really terrible. Socs came and got us last night, they punched us both in the stomach, jaw, face and then the chest. I can't remember anything else after he hit me in the chest. Just coughing and hearing Beth cough too. I wanted to help her but I couldn't. I was the same as her, motionless.

Beth and I sat there on the curb, our boards sitting next to us. We look like two drunk kids that partied all night last night and crashed on the side of the road. Luckily we didn't get hit or noticed by anyone. I saw beer bottles next to us, I know those are not ours. It belongs to the socs that jumped us last night. Beth and I have dried up blood on our faces from them punching us.

I heard people screaming and hollering our names. I looked down the road to see Dally, Steve and Soda running towards us. They stopped in front of us and kneeled down. Their faces showed worry. They were worried about us? I mean Soda yeah, but Dally and Steve? Steve hates us the most and Dally cares for Sidney only.

"What happened?" Soda asked. Elizabeth looked up from the ground.

"Socs got us last night" She said.

"C'mon, let's go" Soda said. Dally helped Beth up and Soda helped me up. Beth and I walked behind them as they asked us what happened.

"Were those your beer?" Dally asked.

"Not this time" I said. Soda walked beside me now and he was looking at me the whole time. I jumped on his back and he carried me the rest of the way home. Beth was being her loner self and walked behind us all.

"Why didn't the girls come and look for us?" Beth asked.

"Because we told them that we would find you. Plus Sidney's flipping out thinking you guys got kidnapped" Steve said.

"You told them to stay?" I asked Steve.

"Nah, Soda and Dally did. I only came because Soda told me to." He said.

"Yeah we get it, ya hate us" Beth added.

"He does not" Soda said.

"yeah he does" and "yeah I do" Steve and Beth said at the same time.

We got back home and Sidney engulfed us in hugs, then Camille and Alexia joined in. The guys left and sat on the couch. I went over to the couch and sat with Soda. Sidney went and sat on Dally's lap. Johnny and Camille are playing cards together, Ponyboy and Beth are either drawing or writing. Alexia's wrestling Steve and Two-bit, her and Two teamed up on Steve. I watched tv with the others.

We all got in the trucks and made our way to the drive-in. Girls took one truck and the guys took the other truck. None of us wanted to be in the truck with Dally driving again. We have Sidney driving, we're all in the cab. Unlike the guys, they have Soda, Steve and Two-bit in the bed of the truck fooling around and Johnny, Ponyboy, Darry and Dally are in the cab of their truck.

We got to the drive-in and most of us split up. Soda and I stayed at the girls truck with Camille and Johnny. Sidney and Dallas sat on the guys truck and Ponyboy and Beth did as well. Two-bit, Alexia, Steve and Darry decided to sit at the seating area, they all think that we're gonna talk and talk. But I can prove them all wrong. I can and we all will, the 8 of us will.

Soda and I sat on the hood of the truck. We leaned against the windshield and watched the commercials as the movie started. He put his arm around me and pulled me closer to him. I put my head on his chest and watched the movie. I looked over at Sidney and Dally, her and him were sitting together in the bed of the truck. They held hands and she has her head on his shoulder. He has a beer, as always, in his hand. Ponyboy and Beth sat with each other on the hood of the truck. She and him are leaning against each other watching the movie. He's playing with her hair as she's watching the movie. I turned around and looked at Camille and Johnny. They make a cute quiet couple. Never knew Camille could talk ever again, but she proved us all wrong. Her and Johnny sat side by side in the bed of the truck. She has her head on his chest and his head is on her head. I could see their smiles clear as day, I like seeing others smile. They others all kissed each other and I smiled seeing how happy they are and how hard the guys tried to get them.

"You okay Kaylee?" Soda asked me. I turned from looking at them and looked up at him. I nodded telling him I was. He smiled and I kissed him, he kissed me back and we stayed like that until the movie started or Two-bit interrupted us by screaming in our ears. He was drunk alright. I laughed and so did Soda. I looked up at the movie and watched it, sitting like I was before. My head in his chest and his arm around me. Keeping me safe and by his side. I am Soda's girl and forever I will be.

"I love you Soda" I said and he looked down at me with a big smile. He and I leaned closer and kissed each other.

"I love you Kaylee" He said. I put my head on his shoulder and watched the movie. I held his hand and he held me hand tightly in his. The movie is only half over and we half another one to watch. I started to fall asleep and I soon did after about 10 minutes. I felt Soda as he kissed my forehead and said 'night'.
