Chapter Twenty One: Play with Fire (Part one)

Previously

"Please let me go!" Without a second thought I threw the door open and began running towards Lauren and Madame Elik. However, before I could get far, my body collided with another and I fell to the ground.

"Let her go!" I heard Liam yell as I shoved the dead body above me aside. I got on my feet and looked up just in time to see my brother's body be torn apart by a pair of shape shifters, and Lauren and Liam missing. Madame Elik's furious eyes found mine. I began running towards her, hatred running in my veins.

Liam's POV

Branches scratched and bruised my face as I ran through the forest. Heavy footsteps came from every direction around me, but I didn't let it stop me. I was running out of air in my lungs, and my feet began to ache. The distance and amount of time I had ran with Lauren in my arms was unmeasurable because the only thing I had in mind was keeping her alive. Lauren's heavy breathing and warm tears stained my shirt. I stopped at the edge of a murky river and slowly placed Lauren on to the ground.

"I-I have to go back for Camila, I can't leave her there," Lauren said breathlessly. I stopped trying to find creatures lurking in the woods and turned to her.

"I will go find her when I get you to safety. Right now you are my priority, Lauren." The girl looked up at me and got up. She furiously pushed against my chest.

"No! That woman is going to kill everyone there! She has werewolves on her side, Liam.  Are you really stupid enough to allow the people fighting on your side to die for me?!" I sighed,

"We have werewolves as well." Lauren's eyes widened.

"How?"

"Colton and Camila were able to convince Colton's pack. There are also vampires on our side. One of the Original Sustays actually, a friend of yours."

"What is his name?"

"James, I think he-" A deep growl came from within the thick brush. I stepped foreword and made sure Lauren was behind me. Another set of deep, furious growls come directly to the left of where we were standing.

"Lauren, listen to me," I said softly. "When I tell you to, You're going Take the keys from my pocket, and you're going to run to the right. Just keep going straight until you find the car and then drive to the airport, you know who to look for, he will take you back to the castle," Branches began to crack and trees began to shake. Within the trees, the shining blue and orange eyes of the wolves started to come closer, and I began to take a few steps back. "Lauren, take the keys now," I felt as her shaky hands reached inside my pocket and removed the single car key from within. Just then, a wolf jumped out from within the trees, causing me to jump. I knew that If I let Lauren run alone, she would have no chance. "Don't. Move." The second wolf jumped out and the fist began to sprint towards us. Within a second I turned to Lauren and carried her bridal style, running to the opposite direction. The wolves' heavy breathing a heavy paws crushed the branches and forest waste as the creatures ran behind us. Lauren's body began to shake. She knew that if the wolves got a hold of her they would not hesitate on pulling her apart.

The pair of wolves began to slow down due to the distance that we had been chased for. My legs began to ache and my arms did not mercy. Even though I am a vampire, my energy levels a re dangerously low do the fact that I had not had a single drop of blood since the day we came to watch over Lauren. When it was apparent that the wolves had been lost, I let Lauren down to the ground.

"You need to feed,' Lauren got on her feet and walked to wards me. "You have to feed," She repeated. I looked up at her.

"There is nothing here for me to feed on, Lauren. I need to catch my breath to be able to get you out of here." I told her. Lauren walked closer to me, and extended her arm.
