68: When You're Ready

"Maya Penelope Hart," Riley starts, as she grabs both of Maya's hands.

"Riley, what are you doing?" Maya asks, as her smile drops from fear.

Riley stares deep into the blonde's blue eyes. "Will you marry me?" Riley asks, before adding, "And please don't answer that question."

Maya's fear turns into confusion, as she mutters, "what?"

"I asked you if you would marry me, but I don't want you to answer."

"R-riles, that's not really how it works," Maya stutters.

"It's how it is going to work with us," Riley declares.

"What are you talking about? How will you know my answer?"

"I just asked you to marry me, yes?"

"Uh... Yeah?"

"I don't want you to answer it with a yes or no, I want you to answer it with a question. Maya, when you are ready, I want to marry you, but not anytime before then. By asking you I just told you I was ready, so when you're ready I want you to ask me too."

"How do you know that I'm not ready now?" Maya asks.

"I know that you hope we get married, you just said so yourself. That doesn't mean that you are ready. I know that and I respect that. When you're ready, I know you will ask."

"So basically we are going to get married, but not until I'm ready?"

"Yep," Riley confirms.

"And I'll tell you when I'm ready by asking you to marry me?"

"Yep," Riley repeats. "Please don't feel pressured to ask me before you know for sure that you are ready."

"How will I know I'm ready?" Maya asks. "How did you know you were ready to ask?"

"You just will, trust me. As for me, I knew because you said I deserved someone better. I had to prove to you that you are the only person in this world for me."

Maya smiles, "so what does that make us now?"

"I think that still makes us girlfriends for now. Does that sound okay?"

"That sounds great."

Maya embraces Riley in a hug. As the two pull apart, Maya focuses on Riley's lips. "So... You mentioned something earlier about a make up kiss," Maya finishes, as she bites her lips.

Riley laughs. "Yeah, but then I asked you to marry me."

"I know, but-"

Maya is cut off when Riley's lips press against her's.

[A few minutes later, Riley and Maya walk out into the living room hand in hand, where they are greeted by Cory, Topanga, Katy, Shawn, Farkle and Zay.]

"Yay!" Farkle shouts, upon seeing Riley and Maya holding each other's hand.

Everyone turns towards Farkle.
