The Road Trip (Team Downey)

Robert's POV

"So there I was, in the middle of no where trying to survive with only 30% battery on my phone, limited signal and a half drunk bottle of water. It was me against the world and I didn't know how long I would be alone."
"But Dad, what about mum? Where was she?"
"She was at work." I chuckled "anyway, as I was saying, I was alone with no one to help me. I was deserted. It was at the moment my survival instincts kicked in and I began to look for shelter and a food source."

I was currently trying to get Exton to sleep but he was having none of it and the only way I could think was to try and get him to make up a story as we go and hopefully that will knock him out. Susan was on her way back from a meeting and I was left in charge of the kids but I let them stay up a tad later than she would let them, what can I say, rules are made to be broken right? Anyway, Avri was sound asleep but Exton just seemed to keep going, bouncing off the walls, wanting to play with his cars and toys, honestly he was tiring me out.

"Alright buddy, what happens next?"
"Ummm, a bear jumps out and you scwream."
"Ok then... So, as I was venturing through the thick undergrowth and shrubbery, I heard a low grunt followed by a snort. I thought nothing of it but when I stepped forward, a great big- What type of bear?"
"Gwrizzy!" Exton laughed
"Ok then. A great big grizzly bear jumped out in front of me, making me scream loud enough for the world to hear." I shouted, pretending to growl at Exton. "I fell back into a small stream, soaking my clothes through and slightly cracking my phone. As the bear reared up on it's back legs, I thought I was a goner until-"
"Until I showed up and shooed it away." Came Susan's tired voice.

"MUM!!" Exton shouted, leaping out of bed to push past me and hug Susan. I sat there looking at them as they hugged, enjoying the moment before Susan dropped the bomb. "And why are you up so late mister?" She tutted picking Exton up and placing him back in bed. Please don't bate me out, please don't hate me out, please- "Daddy let me." God damn it.

"Ohh, is that so?" Susan said, arching her brows at me.
"That's not 100% true. I was actually going to put him to bed but we started to create a story and I guess we lost track off time because you got back." I tried to save myself.
"Fair enough. Now mister, you better get to bed." Susan smiled, tucking him in and placing a kiss on his forehead before we waved him goodnight and walked outside.

Ohhh, boy here we go. I'm in trouble now.

"Robert?"
"Yes Susie?"
"... You know what I'm going to say."
"Yes, I know. I'm sorry but we having too much fun and we lost track of time." I pouted, giving my famous puppy eyes. "God you are unbelievable."
"Unbelievably adorable, yes I am." I smirked at her earning a playful slap to the shoulder.
"Really Robert. Fancy telling him a story about a bear, we want him to sleep not have nightmares."
"I'm sorry, I really am."
"I'm only pulling your leg, it's fine." She smiled, pulling me in for a hug.

I snuggled my head into her neck, enjoying the embrace more than normal. Susan had been away working on producer stuff for 3 days and I missed her but obviously I never told her on the phone because I'm a grown man and I wanted to seem like one but I'm sure she noticed otherwise. "So, how was the meeting and stuff?"
"Boring but it has to be done." She smiled, breaking the hug and going down to the kitchen to make herself a coffee. "No no, go rest on the sofa, I've got the drinks."
"Thank you." She whispered, kissing my cheek before going to sit down.

A couple minutes later I returned with two cups of coffee in hand and placed them on the coffee table before sitting next to Susan. "You got work tomorrow?"
"Nope, you?"
"Nope." I smiled "You see, I was thinking-"
"Ooh that won't end well" she chuckled nudging my shoulder.
"Hey, you don't know what I was going to say."
"I'm sorry, please carry on." She said, taking a sip of her drink
"Well, I was thinking we take a road trip to the beach. Take the kids to the water park, something like that since we have time off."
"Sounds like a plan to me. But you're driving." She nodded, patting my leg.
"Challenge accepted."

We sat back and drank our coffees while listening to The Police before we decided to go up and call it a night. We packed everything before hand so there was no panic when we woke up and with all that said and done I fell asleep with my arm draped over Susan's waist.

*time skip to after they have left the house*

"Where we going Dad?"
"Ooooh, now that bud is a surprise."
"When will we get there?"
"In about an hour or two."
"Ok."
"Let's go!!" I shouted enthusiastically as we pulled out from the driveway.

We hit the high road and began our family trip to the waterpark all before Exton asked me. "Are we there yet dad?"
"Exton, we just left the house."
"Sowrry dad."
"No problem buddy."
"I hope you're prepared for this Robbie." Susan laughed interlacing out fingers in the middle of the console. "Come on Susie, I highly doubt it will be that bad."
"Just you wait hun, just you wait."
"Are we there yet dad?"

We had been driving for 30 minutes and I don't think I've ever heard someone say "Are we there yet dad?" as many times as Exton has, even Avri has joined in. The only way to get them to stop was to occupy them with a game of I spy. This was going to be one long day ahead of us but in all honesty, it didn't matter because I had my family with me and that's all that mattered.

Hey guys

I know this was very short but my internet has gone to absolute trash right now and it has been for the best part of the summer. I want to apologise for the lack of updates but when it has sorted itself out in about an hour I will try and update some of the things I have written and saved on my iPad. Also, I haven't had any requests recently and I just wanted to say that the offer is still there if anyone wants one before I go off to uni and things began to get complicated.

Like I said above, I apologise for lack of updates but it seems BT hate me and because I have no other way around it, updates have been slow.

Anyway, I want to thank you all for reading and for getting this book 800 reads, like I can't even comprehend that right now... Love you guys 💙
