CHAPTER 2 - The Night Before

THIRD PERSON

"Serena? Let's talk now," Clemont said as he walked up to the sofa where she was reading her Pokemon Showcase magazine. The rest of the Pokemon were either lazing around, drifting into their dreams or chasing each other about.

The honey-blonde nodded as she put her magazine down and the duo left for the backyard porch.

The stars of the night were twinkling brightly, empowered by the sheer brightness of the full moon. The two took a seat at the table before Serena glanced at the brilliant night sky. They sat in complete stillness, with Clemont patiently waiting for Serena to speak up. He knew Serena had to start the conversation, not him, or else he'd feel like he would be forcing it; definitely something that's out of his character.

The honey-blonde performer shifted her eyes back to the lemon-haired gym leader. She took a deep breath, calming and straightening her thoughts. Serena needed to release all of her bottled-up feelings to someone. It had been kept in for too long.

"Where should I start...?" Clemont knew he would be in for a long talk with Serena. "I guess this is something that she's been holding in for quite a while, now," he thought to himself.

"Please, take your time. There's no rush," Clemont reassured, making Serena feel more comfortable.

"Thanks, Clemont. Well, here goes. Do you remember how Ash and I first met?" Serena questioned, provoking Clemont's memory. His thoughts raced back to the time where the group were just outside of Santalune City; right after Serena joined the travelling group.

"Wasn't it at a summer camp in the Kanto region?"

"Yeah, it was. The time he guided me out of the forest... He was my saviour... My... my..." Serena trailed off, triggering Clemont's worry and concern.

"You okay?" Clemont concernedly asked.

"Y-yeah. It's just that I've never told anyone this before. But the time Ash saved me from the forest, my infatuation for him spurred during that very moment. He was, without a doubt, my knight in shining armour, at the time," Serena explained. Anxiety instantly struck her upon finishing her sentence. She had never admitted that she had feelings for Ash. Clemont was most certainly dumbstruck. Out of all the possible things she could've talked about; it was love. Something Clemont was way too familiar with, considering his sister's habits.

"I see. And I'm guessing that you still have the same emotions?" Clemont queried before the girl started to explain more.

"It's different now. Ash is still my knight in shining armour, in a different way, though. He was the one of the main reasons why I left my house and quit Ryhorn Racing to travel. If I hadn't left, I'd still be stuck with my mum, repeating the same daily routine; something I absolutely despise. Therefore, I wouldn't have discovered my dream of becoming a Pokemon Performer. He is my largest influence, and I will always be grateful of that. That's why I think my infatuation for him has..."

Serena trailed off with her incomplete explanation as she broke her eye contact with Clemont, switching it to the ground. Her heartbeat raced and raced. It could've been mistaken for a heart attack. Consequently, Serena clasped her hands around the ribbon that she wore, daily. The ribbon that was gifted to her from her crush. The ribbon that signified her resolve. The ribbon that gave her strength. The ribbon that soothed her mood, even in dire situations. Her ribbon of courage and willpower.

"My infatuation for Ash has become love. Something much more than some silly schoolgirl crush. I deeply care for Ash. I always feel extremely worried when his reckless nature carries him. But I know his strength will overpower the recklessness. Because he never gives up. And he taught me that. Something I'll never forget," Serena finished, shooting her eyes back to Clemont. The ocean blue eyes; filled with determination. Her emotions felt relieved; much more at ease.
