CHAPTER 22 - Recovering A Lover and A Close Friend

THIRD PERSON

In the ever so cold, spine tingling, hair raising room, taken of a circular shape with two tubes right down the middle, one glowing red and the other blue, Serena could never feel so distraught. She had never seen such a shocking sight in her entire life, one that she would ever want to see. Let alone be it to the person that she cared so much for. On the other end of the room, in front of the elevator they entered through, Gary noticed Serena's unusual reaction. He questioned himself on what could possibly be hidden behind the tubes that separated his vision from what Serena was looking at. Deciding not to keep himself in suspense any longer, Gary asked what was wrong as he walked over to Serena.

She responded with silence as she was rooted in place. Once Gary diverted his gaze from Serena to what she had been so shocked about, he too, had a similar reaction to Serena. Mouth agape, eyes widened and frozen on the spot.

"Ash?!" Gary shouted. Diantha too, was curious as to see if Ash was really there, so she took quick-paced steps until she stood beside Gary, who stood beside Serena. Leaning against the wall, was Ash, whose clothes were ruffed and filled with dirt. His legs extended out and his arm weakly hung beside him. His signature red cap was tilted down, covering his facial features.

"Ash!" Serena screamed, kneeling beside the boy. Her heart constantly pounded against her chest as worry built up. Tears started to form in her ocean-blue eyes, but she held it back, knowing Ash would be upset if he saw her crying as soon as he gripped consciousness again, that is, if he ever did. She made sure he was breathing, slowing moving her head down to his chest area and placing an ear near his heart. The beats were slow, but somewhat stable which reassured her and made her worry of him not waking up wash away.

"Is he breathing?" Gary asked Serena as he joined in kneeling beside his childhood friend, to which she nodded in reply. At this moment in time, Serena couldn't get a word out of her mouth for the life of her. It felt as if her voice had been taken away. Mainly because of how shocked she was to see Ash in this condition. She just wanted him back and wanted to stop Team Flare and Team Aqua together, with their other friends too.

Serena took a deep breath in attempt of calming herself down. She succeeded in doing so as she called Ash's name into his ear, hoping he would hear her soft, yet loud voice and wake up. Gary called his name too, with the same hopes as Serena. The process repeated itself with Gary adding a nudge to Ash's shoulder every so often.

After moments of relentlessly trying to wake Ash up, Serena couldn't hold in her sobs any longer. Tears streamed down her face as her head dropped, fearing Ash would never wake up with their calling. The salty tears, filled with sorrow puddled on the ground in front of Serena and next to Ash's leg. Even though Gary had only known Serena for less than a week, he felt great sadness when he noticed Serena's crying. Diantha couldn't help but feel down either.

"A-Ash, please wake u-up..." Serena sobbed. Suddenly, a slight movement twitched in Ash's hand, closest to Serena. She instantly noticed this and jerked her head upwards, fixing her vision on Ash's face. His closed eyes scrunched as the boy stirred from his long slumber. Quickly realising Ash had come back to his senses, Serena called out his name in joy.

Ash's eyes were half opened, his surroundings were still blurry to him and his body felt numb. It took him a while to fully take in what was around him, until his eyes laid on a certain pair of cerulean eyes, belonging to a girl who wasn't completely sure he knew. Ash then turned his head to the other side, noticing a auburn-haired boy approximately the same age as himself. Again, he didn't know he if knew that person or not.
