CHAPTER 7 - Kalos League Finals (Part 4)

THIRD PERSON

"Counter what?!" Clemont and Gary questioned simultaneously, unknown to each other. Brock seemed intrigued by the fact that his longtime friend used a improvised move which he created, two regions back.

"That's Counter Shield. Ash created the move back in Sinnoh. It's a defensive, yet offensive move. Pikachu will slide onto his back and spin around, while constantly using Thunderbolt. Watch, you'll see," Brock explained, stroking his non-existent beard.

The electric type barely avoided the one-hit KO move by jumping onto his back with the right timing before letting his Thunderbolt loose. The electrical attack created an electrifying vortex around the electric type, smashing directly into the dark-steel type. The offensive, yet defensive move propelled Bisharp back to its original position on the field, having taken serious damage from Pikachu's attacks. Struggling to recuperate itself, Ash took full advantage of this and commanded Pikachu to finish this with Quick Attack.

Wrapping itself in a white light, the Mouse Pokemon charged straight for the Sword Blade Pokemon, which was on one knee.

Little to Ash's knowledge, Bisharp's struggle was just an act. Alain's Pokemon felt as if it was about to collapse on the spot, but it had a backup plan, just for this situation. Just as Pikachu thought it was about to end the duel, Alain lips curved into a smirk with Bisharp following suit. Both Pikachu and Ash immediately noticed their opponents' confidence and knew something wasn't right. But their realisation had been far too late.

"Bisharp! Guillotine and end this!"

Once again, the dark-steel type Pokemon focused its energy into both elbows, creating two energy blades. The Mouse Pokemon was already too far into the attack to stop it and Ash knew this. The momentum was far too much to stop on the spot. Knowing there was absolutely no way to stop his attack, Pikachu pushed himself even harder, rather than ceasing the move.

Before the electric type had even lifted off the ground to slam into his opponent, Bisharp had already started the motion of slashing down with its energy blades. The blades crashed into Pikachu's head, slamming the Mouse Pokemon into the grass. The impact of the attack created a large explosion, shrouding both Pokemon.

"Pikachu!" Ash shouted.

"Pikachu is unable to battle! Bisharp is the winner!" This time, the crowd didn't explode into cheers and applause like usual. Everyone was dumbstruck as to how easily Ash's Pikachu had been defeated. Before his battle with Bisharp, the Mouse Pokemon easily knocked out two of Alain's Pokemon, barely getting a scratch on himself.

"And just like that, Ash's Pikachu is down. Alain's Bisharp has shown its ferocity as a battler, having taken down two of Ash's Pokemon!"

His mood had been totally flipped upside down. The anxiety levels from before the match reentered his body. He couldn't think straight. His thoughts were consumed with what would everyone think of him if he lost after getting so far. Would they think of him as a failure? If he was the normal Ash, he would know that his friends would never think of him as a failure. However, he wasn't the normal Ash. He was the distressed Ash. He was not the trainer from the start of the battle. He already thought of himself as a failure.

The raven-haired trainer lingered his eyes on his fainted partner. Pikachu laid there, with his body imprints on the grassy terrain. Dropping his head in shame, Ash walked over to Pikachu before picking his partner up and laying him down on the competitors' platform. The only thing the distraught trainer did was stare straight into the ground. He was motionless. His head was down. His face was hidden. No one knew what had gotten into him.
