Introduction

In small town, in the middle of Montana, there was a girl. This girl had a very rough childhood. Her parents argued, she was abused, and she was exposed to drugs and alcohol all the time. She hated her life. Every night she would go to bed and pray, even though nobody in her family bothered to go to church. She would tell God, "Please take me away, lord. I don't want to be here."

She didn't have any friends either. Her only companion was her dog, Nickel. She found Nickel on the side of the road as a puppy. Something about his reflective eyes and warm, soft coat gave her comfort.

One day, her neighbors noticed what was happening in that household. The neighbors informed the police and the police came and took the little girl away, along with Nickel.

The girl was put up for adoption, but Nickel wasn't. They didn't allow him to be with her through this. They said it would 'complicate the process'. But she was adopted into the Smith's home.

The Smith's were not wealthy, in fact they were struggling to stay afloat. However, they were overjoyed to have another member of their family. They eventually enrolled her in school too.
