"I know this is going to sound creepy but," he paused, "i have known you all your life."
"What? what do you mean?" I say with my eyes wide.
He sighs, "I don't know if you remember but when you were little you had a dog. Do you remember his name?"
"Of course. He was named Nickel-"
Oh my god.
Yes.
Of course!
I gasp, tears stream down my face and I don't bother to wipe them away.
He is Nickel.
I crawl over to him a hug him tightly around his slender neck. He falls on his back from his sitting position. I realize I am laughing into his shirt.
"You?" I question. "What? how? when? why?"
"I know it's a lot to take in but..."
I cut him off and sit back up, "what the hell? how is this...possible?"
"Just hear me out, okay?"
I nod.
"I am not human. I am what you humans call a shapeshifter. Shapeshifter's are guardians of humans who can see through the Veil, we call them Seers. The Veil is an invisible force that prevents humans from seeing into our world, our world shares your world but not all can see it. Guardians are assigned by the angels, the highest ranking guardians." He pauses and takes a deep breath.
He looks into my eyes and says, "Rosemary, you are a Seer."
I'm speechless.
