“Ahhhhh!”I scream as I sit up. Josh comes rushing in. “What’s wrong?”He says groggily.
“I had a nightmare. Sorry I woke you up. Did mom and dad wake up?”
“No they didn’t, they are already gone. And I only had 15 minutes before my alarm went off.”He says leaving, shutting my door. I rarely have nightmares, and this one was because of the letter last night. I had a dream that the letter was true and I was killed. I shrug the dream off and get up to wash my face and get ready for the day. I do the usually and head downstairs. I see Josh by the TV looking funny. “What happened?”
“On the news they just said they found a young boy dead. And it was Jack Mick.”Josh tells me.
“What? I just saw him yesterday. How did he die?”
“They can’t tell yet. But they found him in his room. We have to leave soon if we don’t want to be late.” I head out with him, but my brain keeps going back to Jack and that letter last night. The person must have been serious. I wonder who is next. I really need to talk to the girls.
When we get to the school I say thank you and hop out looking for Karly and Emily. I see them walking towards me hurriedly. “Did you hear what happened?” Emily asks excitedly.
“Yes.”I tell them, and then whispering I ask, “Did you guys get a letter?” Both of their eyes get wide. Their faces let me know that they did. “At the lunch period, meet at the balcony.” Karly says. I nod and go look for Si’las. I find him by his locker. He is talking to some girl. I come closer and see that the girl is Mary Wilson. She is over there flirting with Si’las. I know I shouldn’t care, because I have Logan, but I don’t want to see Si’las with her. “Oh hey, Skylar. Will you be at the part Friday night?” Mary asks me when she sees me fumbling with my locker.
“Yes, but you won’t.”
“O h please, I’m coming. It’s the best place to hear gossip. And new students, Si’las and Scottlyn, need to meet some new people. Speaking of gossip, word on the street is that Logan is cheating on you.”
“He is not cheating, and if he was it is none of your business. “ I say feeling myself get warm with anger. Changing the subject and turning to Si’las I say, “Are you ready for class.” He nods and says goodbye to Mary. As we walk through the halls, he stands extremely close to me. I can feel his chest going in and out and feel him breathing very hard. We go into math class and sit at the same seats we sat at yesterday. “So that’s what has been wrong between you and that Logan guy.” Si’las says after a few minutes of being quiet.
“Why do you guys care? It’s none of your business. You just moved here, you don’t know us.”
“Sorry. How about we change the subject. Wasn’t that guy who was just found dead, the principle’s son and the one that talked to you yesterday?”
“Yes it is.” I say hoping he will leave it at that. But naturally he doesn’t. “What happened to Kate?”
“She died two years ago in a car accident.” I say, not wanting to reveal what really happened.
“I hear a bunch of people talking about. Some say that’s not what happened. And Mary told me she had a secret.”
