I wake up and head to the door so that I can get some food. When I try to turn the doorknob, it is locked. I start to bang on it, hoping someone will hear me. “Mom! Dad!”I yell. I hear them come up the stairs, and then turn down the hall towards my room. “Don’t worry Skylar; we locked you in there to protect you.”My mom says

“Let me out!”I beg. I feel the walls coming in on me. I ant be locked in here now, it’s too soon. I feel like I can’t breathe. “You will be safe in there. Now don’t you worry, dear.”My mom replies, and then I hear her footsteps go back down the stairs.

I sit on my bed, not knowing what I should do now. I find my phone under all my pillows; I haven’t checked it in days. I see a text from Si’las from yesterday. “I hope you feel better, see you soon”

                “Are you busy?”

                “No, what’s up?”

“I'm locked in my room again.”

“I'll be over in a little bit. Unlock your window.” I go to the window and unlock it. I hear my parents leave out. That’s a good sign that means they won’t come in my room.

About ten minutes later, Si’las walks up to my window. He climbs in all by himself. “Where did you park?”I ask him once he is in.

“I just walked here. I saw your parents leaving.”

                “Did they see you?”

“No, I had my hood on.” I nod, and he takes me in his arms. “I'm glad you’re okay.” He then kisses me on the lips, then on my forehead. I laugh a little. “So what did they lock you up in here for this time?”

“They said I would be safe in here.”We sit down on the floor and I lay on him like I usually do.

“They didn’t hurt you did they.”

“No, they just locked it when I was sleeping. I'm sorry about what they said about you at the hospital a few days ago.”

“Ah it’s okay. I know they probably don’t like me.”

“It's not like they don’t like you, it’s just that they don’t like anyone really. My parents treat me and Josh like that sometimes. Don’t pay them any attention.” I tell him nuzzling my head in his shoulder. We sit there silently for a little bit cuddled up. “Will you tell me what the Kate case is now?”He asks out of the blue.

“Well,” I begin; have no idea what to say. Should I lie or tell him the truth. I'm about to tell him what happened, when I hear my parents pull in. “That’s my parents, you need to hide.” Si’las is up on his feet and in the closet before I know it. I close it after him and hop in bed. I pull my covers over my head, and pretend to be sleep.

I listen carefully to them walk up to steps, hoping they go to their room. I hear them split in the middle; someone walks to my room and someone walks to their room. Whoever it is then unlock the door. “Skylar, wake up.”I hear my dad says. I get up and pretend to be groggy. “Yes dad?”

“How are you feeling?”He asks, but it isn’t in a tone that sounds all that good.

“I'm feeling better.”I reply and then lay back down, hoping he will get the hint to leave. He does leave, and I wait for him to go down to their room. I look at the clock and see that it is eleven o’clock at night; so they will be in for the night.
