I’m awoken by a text message, on Saturday morning. Just one of many texts I have. One is from Emily saying,
I’m sorry for what happened. I hope we can talk about this later.
Please, I’m not talking to her about anything. I look over the text and move on to the next ones. One is from Logan,
Hey I hope we can talk on Monday. I’m sorry.
He must not have noticed his car was messed up, he’s too calm. Next one is from Karly. Unlike the others, hers wasn’t so nice.
You knew something was coming. Don’t be so mad about it. We can still be friends; you just have to learn to accept me and Logan’s relationship
I roll my eyes. She makes it seem like I’m wrong for being mad about what happened. She is so selfish. Karly has always been like this, but she seems worse. The last text is from Si’las, it’s short and sweet.
Hey I hope you feeling better. Can’t wait to see you.
I read the text message about three times. The more I read it, the more I want to see him. I text him back saying that I can’t wait either. The rest of the weekend goes by quickly. All weekend long, I think about Si’las. Si’las and I might actually work.
When Monday morning comes, I have lost all confidence I had. I remember that everybody in the school knows what happened. They all know that Logan and I broke up, and that it was Karly that Logan was cheating on me with.
My brother and I ride to school together, like we do most days. When we get to the school parking lot we see a bunch of cop cars and an ambulance there. “I wonder what happen.” I say out loud. Josh shrugs. When he parks, we both rush in. Si’las and Scottlyn meet us at the door, once we are inside. “What happened?”Josh asks.
“You didn’t hear?”Si’las asks, frowning his brow. “The science teacher was found dead. They think she was poisoned.” Josh and I stand there stunned. Mrs.Tishner is dead. I just saw her Friday. “She was just found?” I ask them, wondering why we are just hearing about this. Scottlyn and Si’las both nod. Mrs.Tishner is dead and she died alone. Sadly the only question that goes through my mind is; who is going to teach the science class? But then another thought struck me, two people died in the last two weeks. And they were both connected in the Kate’s case. No that can’t be the reason. They were both probably accidental.
For the first time since Jack’s death, I see the principal. I bet this story is all over the news. Mrs. Mick tells us all to go home for the day, since the police need to process everything and don’t want us messing with anything. In the parking lot I see Logan. When he sees me, he walks over to me. “How dare you ruin my car?” He says.
“Well how dare you cheat on me?” I spit back. By then Si’las and Josh are by my side. “Just leave her alone and go to your new girlfriend.” Josh says pushing Logan away. Surprisingly Logan walks away, and goes to where Karly and Emily are standing. Both of them give me a dirty look. “So do you guys want to go do something, since we have no school?” Scottlyn asks.
“They just opened a new rollerblade arena.” Josh suggests. We all agree to meet there. Admission is cheat and soon the four of us are in there skating. Scottlyn and Josh hang out, but it’s more like a brother and sister relationship. While they are skating together, me and Si’las skates. So that I won’t fall, he holds my hand. His hands are super soft and warm. We skate on for another hour, and then leave to go get something to eat.
