A world exists where humans are more durable. Their skin is hard, their brains are tough. They are, in all, better than us.
But in any universe, humans are awful-brained creatures. And so, they take advantage of their enduring forms.
At the age of ten, all children will go through a process called transmutation, where parents mutilate their children, combining them with one to three favorite objects. This almost immortalizes their children, but, at the same tine, drastically changes their attitudes.
Our race of humans, the weaker race, has begun liberating them, which, at first, seems good for Carin, a young boy who does not want to go through transmutation. But then, he finds that they want to kill off everyone of the stronger race.
And when Carin becomes the last untransmutated child, the rest of his race is determined to protect him.
