Liam's P.O.V.

"Hey," I coo, entering my living room.

Y/N is sitting, bundled up into a corner of the sofa; a blanket around her and a sad, lifeless expression.

"Hi," She whispers back, her voice hoarse and quiet.

It's been a week since the incident with her thankfully-now ex-boyfriend. If you could even call him a boyfriend at all.

"How're you holding up?" I ask, slowly sitting down next to her as she turns to look at me.

"Good thanks," She lies, forcing a smile.

"You can't say that when you're not." I tell her, reaching over to rub her shoulder and she sighs softly.

"Liam - it's not fair to you. I should be good, I should be happy, I've had a lucky escape. Not only that, but you've looked after me and you've made sure I'm safe. I should be beyond happy and I am thankful," She explains.

"So you lied and said you were good for my benefit?" I question, raising an eyebrow.

"I should be happy because of what you're doing for me." She whispers in reply.

"You should because you deserve to be happy, but you're not expected to be. Y/N, you've had a huge issue to deal with, I wouldn't be surprised if you were upset or scared." I assure her, honestly.

"I know, that's why you deserve better," She sighs and I scrunch my face up, confused.

"What do you mean?"

"Liam, can we not talk right now? I just want to have a distraction for a while."

"Oh and that distraction is sitting alone with your thoughts?" I say, my tone slightly raised.

She looks at me, blinking rapidly as she tries to decipher whether I was being harsh or not.

"I just need to make sure you're okay, you don't have to do this alone." I sigh, and she gives a small smile.

"I know," She nods, earnestly.

"On the plus side, I have some good news though." I say.

"What is it?" She asks, tensely.

"It's about Jay," I say, referring to the man who she now feared, and with good reason.

"What about him?" She questions, abruptly.

"The police called this morning. His court sentence is in three months time, and he's being held in custody until then."

"So he's staying locked up?"

"Until his trial, yes, but there's apparently a lot of evidence coming together all ready to prove he's capable of domestic violence." I tell her, watching her expression because I knew this was a touchy subject.

"Really?" She asks, her eyes widening in surprise.

"Apparently he's been inside for this kind of thing before," I reply, and she sighs, shaking her head.

"I should've known. I should've actually listened to you, instead of denying your opinion."

"You always see the good in people," I comment. Knowing just how kindhearted she was, I wasn't surprised she was kind to him too.
