Louis P.O.V.
Beeping sounds were everywhere; I watched as nurses attached wires to her, placing a different oxygen mask over her face from what she was given in the ambulance.
The paramedics explained what had happened, along with how she was doing in medical language as they rushed her through the wards.
I followed, completely stunned by how it had come to this. How had I let her get to this point where she was hospitalised? Why had I become such a terrible partner?
"Excuse me sir, if you could just wait in the waiting room, that'd be really helpful." A nurse tells me, and I nod, my ears ringing in anticipation.
I stand still, watching as she disappears into another room.
*
"Sir, you may come and see her now." A nurse says, approaching me warmly.
"Is she alright?" I ask in a panic, as I scramble to my feet, having had to wait almost twenty minutes to find out anything.
"She's fine, just in shock, is all." The nurse smiles.
"But... How come it took so long to calm her down? I didn't realise panic attacks could be so brutal." I ask, and the nurse smiles, sympathetically.
"They usually aren't, but on this occasion Y/N went into shock and her breathing almost stopped, but we managed to stabilise her. She should be breathing by herself in no time, we're just going to keep her in overnight for observation." She explains, and I nod, understandingly.
I follow her into the room where Y/N is sitting upright with an oxygen wire across her nose and a tired expression.
"Y/N," I sigh, partly relieved and partly heartbroken at how I had caused her to get into this state.
"I'm sorry," She says, quietly.
"What an earth for? You have nothing to apologise for, baby." I say, confused, as I sit down on the chair next to the bed.
"For getting on your nerves lately and for leaving you no choice but to bring me here. You know, you didn't have to come in the ambulance -"
"Woah, why wouldn't I come? Y/N, you gave me the fright of my life, I thought I'd loose you and I wasn't sure in what circumstance that might be in." I interrupt sadly, reaching for her hand.
"-and you haven't been getting on my nerves, I've just been such a knobhead lately and I honestly didn't mean to be. I - if I could take it all back, I would in a heartbeat." I add earnestly as I squeeze her hand gently.
"Just because I've ended up here, doesn't mean you have to pretend we're okay. You can leave me and I will understand." Y/N tells me quietly, pulling her hand from mine.
"Do you really think I want to leave you?" I question, utterly gutted.
"What other explanation is there?" She scoffs, hurt.
"One that only an idiot could have," I reply, ashamed.
"I've taken everything out on you, wrongly, of course, and I never meant to hurt you. Even though I knew I wasn't being a loving boyfriend, it's like I was in a work trance that I couldn't get out of." I continue.
"That's no excuse, but - I swear to you, I don't want to leave you. A few weeks ago I bought this," I tell her, pulling the engagement ring I had from my pocket.
"I've kept it in my coat pocket this whole time, and even though I've acted like a complete prick, I never once doubted that I wanted to marry you." I explain, watching her reaction as she looks utterly shocked.
