Hermione thought that living in the same tower as Draco would be difficult. She thought she might have to fight him for the bathroom, awkwardly run into him down the hallway towards their rooms or heading for the common area, and have to make awkward conversations with him as they walked but... None of those things actually happened. In fact, Hermione actually liked having Draco as a roommate. He didn't leave the common room a mess and the bathroom was always immaculate after he finished, unlike some of the girls Hermione had roomed with before. They didn't even talk much beyond that time they had shared tea. It was usually a formal Hello, or perhaps a goodnight if Draco was passing Hermione in the common room. Beyond that, Draco felt like a ghost.
Unfortunately, as with most roommates, their cordial relationship didn't last long.

The first time Draco and Hermione got into a fight, she hadn't even know that it was a fight. Sure Draco looked pissed off but that was just how his face naturally rested sometimes, in a permanently ticked off expression. It wasn't until he started yelling that Hermione knew it was serious.
Hermione came home from studying in the library one afternoon to find that the door to their tower was wide open and Draco was pacing the Common Room almost nervously. "Is something the matter?" Hermione asked, walking through the open door before moving to shut it.
"Don't. My allergies are acting up." Draco said, stopping her.
"Oh, alright. Why are you pacing?" Hermione said, still curious as to why Draco looked so out of sorts.
"Because your cat is out here and I can't seem to clear my head." Draco said, gesturing to the furry beast on the couch and trying not to sneeze.
"You're pacing because of my cat?" Hermione asked, walking towards Crookshanks and picking him up. Draco sneezed violently as she did and Hermione was stunned. She knew Draco was human but god, she had never heard him sneeze before.
"Yes. My allergies are acting up because of him Granger, why'd you let him out of your room?" Draco demanded. Hermione cocked he head, surprised.
"You're allergic to cats?" Draco gave her a dead expression and she finally realized his eyes were red and his face looked a little puffy. "What are you doing out in the common room with him if you're allergic?"
"So I could tell you I have allergies since you didn't know." Draco said with a frown.
"Well I'm sorry it's not like we've talked about these kinds of things before."
"I don't have a cat Hermione. Aren't you the brightest witch of our generation? Shouldn't you have deduced that I'm allergic." Hermione frowned now too. How was she supposed to know what Draco was allergic too?
"Not everybody likes cats. I thought you were just one of those people."
"Because I'm allergic!" Draco snapped at her. Hermione huffed and walked past him, deliberately holding Crookshanks higher in her arms just to make Draco sneeze.
"Fine. I won't have him out here anymore."
"Good." Draco shouted after her as she headed back down to her room. Crookshanks meowed in her arms.
"I know." Hermione whispered. "He's a big meanie." With that, she slammed the door to her room shut.

Hermione has been sitting outside the bathroom door for what felt like hours. When she had come home from class, Draco had been in there and while she hadn't particularly minded at the time, it had now been at least forty five minutes and she was getting a bit aggravated. She had wanted to at least freshen up before dinner but had felt that it would be rude to knock on her door and demand that he come out, especially since they had been getting in each other's nerves as of late.
