The strange girl brushed past me. I turned just in time to see her backside sauntering away, after she'd tickled my oversized wings. I'd always done my best to conceal just how large they were, but they had a span of over fifteen feet, last time the doctors measured. It was getting harder to do so.

My guess was that the girl hadn't meant to touch my wings.

But she was very strange. As I watched her hips sway, I realized her back was bare; no wings sprouted from between her shoulder blades.
Perhaps, I thought, her wings were only covered by her tumbling brown hair, which seemed to be shaved on one side.

"Alex," a sweet voice said.

It was my girlfriend, Gracie, pawning for my attention again. I looked down at her lovely face, shaded by black bangs. I pushed those dark locks back just enough to lean down and kiss her cheek. I ran my fingers over her soft grey feathers.

"Yes, my dear?" I asked, smiling sweetly.

"Did you even listen?" She didn't wait for me to reply before she plunged into another rant about her homework from last night.

I sighed and stared after the strange girl's bare back.
