My first night with Nancy and Lissa was nice. I wish I could come up with a better word but I was out of it, thoughts of my parents basically screaming at me the whole time.
After we brought all the boxes inside we had to carry them all up to the second floor. Lissa told me all about her friends. There was lily and Marcus the twins, Jake, her and now I guess me. Marcus and jake are football stars and from what Lissa told me "hot shit". Apparently their whole little group is rather popular. Well Marcus and jake are popular Lily's only popular because of Marcus and Lisa's only popular because of lily. And apparently she's told them all about me as well. From my status in the dance world and my quiet personality. She managed to leave out the part about my parents. From the way she talked about I was actually not dreading it though that didn't mean I was excited either. It was Saturday so I had tomorrow to settle and unpack before I was thrown into school.
With my bed still in pieces I had to sleep on the mattress on the floor. I placed it in the corner and put the sheets on. I figured it would be easier to do this while the mattress was laying on the ground other than on the bed frame. I stepped back and looked at my work. Satisfied with the purple Sheets laid out I decided to change from the jeans I had been wearing all day to pyjama pants and a old shirt which I wouldn't be caught dead in.
The house was silent indicating Lissa and Nancy were asleep. I took a deep breath in and let out a smile. I'm happy to have moved where people wouldn't know who I was or what happened. I could start fresh and people wouldn't know about the ache created by the lack of parents. If I went back to my old school everyone would have known and pitied me and treated me different. But here no one will know.
I walked over to the window. All I had was the view of a window from the house beside us. The curtains were closed but I could see a shadow of who ever was in the room. I decided to ignore it and remove to screen on the window. I propped myself up so I could sit facing the back yard, a leg on either side of the widow so I would be safe. That's the view I wanted. much better than a closed curtain.
The sun was setting behind the horizon in front of me. With lush colours of pink and orange filling the sky. I tiled my head to get a better view. Dad would have loved this. He was a photographer so I had plenty of pictures of everything I left behind when my parents died. My mom was a journalist for a popular magazine so when she was offered a chance to work with a well know photographer all those years ago she jumped at the chance and fell in love. We had traveled a lot when they were alive. Although I like seeing different cultures and city's everything was too fast pace for me and I didn't enjoy it the same way they did. I like things to stay the same so traveling around wasn't really my thing.
"It's nice hu?" A voice said scaring the living crap out of me and causing me to scream and fall back inside my new room. Nearly as soon as I fell and made a loud thud Lissa ran into the room. Nancy's gotta be a pretty deep sleeper to not hear me, i thought. She looked at me concern written all over her face.
"Are you okay sweetie?" She asked as I laid on my back one foot on the windowsill. I frowned as she picked me up from the ground. We both looked in the window to see a very attractive boy trying to hold his laughter in. Lissa scowled.
"Jake you idiot. You nearly scared her half to death!" She scolded at the stranger standing in the room across from mine. His laughter died down and he got himself together.
"Jake?" I asked. "As in football jake?" Jake grinned.
"So Lissa's told you about me?" He asked curious. I scowled at Lissa.
"She did but neglected the fact that you could see straight into my room." Lissa laughed uncomfortably then shrugged.
"Hey Addi just to let you know my friend jake lives right across from your window. Make sure not to wear that unfortunate ratty old tee shirt." She said in a joke tone putting her hands on my shoulders.
"A bit late don't you think?" I mumbled. She smiled awkwardly then turned back to jake who was watching amused leaning on his window. In one swift motion he got up and stuck his hand out his window for me to shake.
"I'm jake walker." He smiled as I reluctantly stuck my hand out my window to shake his.
"Addilyn Blake." I let a small smile slide. Jakes hair was messy brown with stunning brown eyes to match. I didn't look at him long, only enough so I could recognize him if I ever needed to. I pulled my hand back to my side. I could feel jakes eyes on me for a couple seconds more.
"You can call her addi." Lissa interrupted. I turned to her and scowled.
"What makes you say he can?" I asked my tone annoyed. I don't normally let people walk around calling by my nick name. Lissa turned to me and smirked.
"The future little cousin." She rapped her arm around my shoulder. I rolled my eyes. I'm not that much younger than Lissa, only four months. I'm in the same grade as her always making me one of the youngest in my grade. It was either the youngest or the oldest and my parents decided I would be better to be the youngest for some reason. Figured I'd be a fast learner.
"I'm not your "little" cousin were the same age." I pointed out looking back at her. She smirked.
"You are 15 right? Last time I checked I'm 16." She looked at me smirking at my defeat.
"Technically you were born the same year I was making us the same age." I stuck my tongue at her in triumph I was slightly startled when I herd a voice laugh. I hadn't realized jake had stuck around to listen to our best friend/ cousin bickering. I looked at him startled. He shot me a half smile.
"Well I'm off to bed because tomorrow I get to meet the new addition to our neighbour hood." He said closing his window. I did the same followed by closing my blinds. I turned to face Lissa who had a huge grin smeared on her lips. I raised one eyebrow.
"What are you so smiley about?" I asked. She shrugged in response and left my room. I rolled my eyes and flopped down on my mattress.
