The party for the most part was fun but uneventful. We played a bunch of party games I didn't want to participate in, and Marcus ate too much candy and threw up in the smarties. Needless to say I didn't have anymore of those. And thanks to Lissa everyone was talking about my birthday which I didn't appreciate. Somewhere in all my that I talked to Marcus about my parents and he had the same reaction most people have. I was free. No more Tiffany holding it above my head.
I had fun at the party and was glad Jake made me come. By the time I got home I was exhausted and crashed as soon as my face hit my pillow. To my surprise the next morning there was no loud music to wake me up. I wondered if Jake had actually decided to stop but I knew that wasn't the case when I looked in his window.
There in his bed, Jake was spread out sleeping like a baby. I looked at how peaceful he looked when an idea popped into my head. I found the loudest song I could find off of radio alarm clock and turned it onto full blast through the walky-talkie. Jake jumped out of his bed and fell to the floor. I laughed and when he finally realized what was going on he went to the window and picked up his walky-talkie. I shut off the music so I could hear him.
"That was mean Addi bear. And here I thought you were all innocent." He frowned and shook his head. "That's on you I guess." I told him still laughing at his reaction. When my laughing died down Jake and I had a little conversation. "You going to the game this afternoon?" He asked. I nodded my head and he smiled. "So will you wear my letterman jacket? You know good luck." He asked. It took me by surprise. He wanted me to wear his jacket? Was that even a thing? "Uh sure." I managed. He grinned largely and opened his window. I gave him a questioning look and he made a motion for me to open my window too.
I slid my window open and jakes jacket came flying at my face. I gave an annoyed look at Jake as I peeled the jacket off. He gave me a sheepish smile before telling me he had to go to practice then closing his window. I, however, lingered a few minutes looking out the window at the sun raise. Why did Jake want me to have his jacket? This is another thing I have to think about adding in to the paper airplane and what Lissa said in the smoothie shop. 'We love her way more than we ever loved you' . Today I would make sure to ask Lissa what that was about.
I got dressed and slipped jakes blue and white letterman jacket over my jeans and white tee shirt. I walked to the front door and called for Lissa to get down so we could go and she replied with "hold on! I sneezed when I put in my mascara!" I groaned knowing this was going to take a while. When Lissa finally decided to join me she was wearing the same jacket I was. She gasped. "Look! We match!" She said enthusiastically. I laughed and she slung her arm around my shoulder. "So it's jakes right?" She asked. I rolled my eyes. "What told you that? The fact his names is on the side?" I asked sarcastically. She laughed again at my joke. We hopped in her green convertible and drove to the river bank high football game which was being held across town at the only other high school in town.
Fourteen seconds left and the crowd was buzzing. The score was tied and this was our teams last down. We were doing rather well this game, I think. I actually have no idea how football is played but according to lily we were doing good. Jake shot me a smile before the ball was snapped and players began running in all sorts of patterns around the field. Marcus threw the ball down to the end of the field and it was caught in the end zone meaning we won. The crowd roared with applause and cheers. I laughed as everyone stood up and jumped up and down. I decided to play along so I stood up and clapped.
The whole team celebrated their second win of the season. They all huddled around each other looking even more excited that the crowd. Jake turned to me and shot me a huge smiled and I gave him a small smile and a thumbs up. After the game was over I found the perfect opportunity to ask Lissa and lily about what happened with Tiffany in the smoothie shop. We were all sitting in Lissa convertible on our way home. This was perfect. It's not like they could just stop the car and run away. They were trapped. As soon as I asked they shut their mouths and didn't utter a single word.
"You guys! You can't just not tell me." I argued. Finally they gave in. "Fine! Lissa will tell you." Lily told me. Lissa glared at lily. "Why can't you?" She asked. Lily shrugged and said nothing more.
"Okay listen Ad. This was a long time ago-" Lissa began until lily coughed. "Eighth grade" Lissa shot her another glare before continuing.
"When Tiffany was a different person. She wasn't filled with so much hate until she found out it was easier to be mean to everyone and make them like you than having them like you for real. she became a bully. We were all friends and Of course we all hated this side of her so we let her choose between our little group and her new found popularity. It's obvious which one she chose. But when she tried to come crawling back we pushed her away and she's been bitter ever sense." Lissa told me. I thought about everything that Tiffany did to me and it all made sense. Except for Jake. If they were friends why would she try to date him if they were friends?"What about Jake?" I asked. This time lily spoke. "She's had a thing for him ever sense we were kids." Lily explained. Well I was going to get no sleep tonight, so much to think about.
