After gym I had my first lunch at river wood high sense I skipped yesterday's lunch. We decided to eat in the cafeteria sense it was cold and began to snow outside. Maybe Jake was right and It was going to be a snow day. Normally if it was warm enough they'd sit outside.
The cafeteria was buzzing with chatter. I stopped in the door way. This whole situation gave me anxiety. So many people. Like I said before so many different smells. I felt a pair of hand on my shoulders behind me. I turned followed them up to lily. Her curls were flattened by a cap turned backwards on her head. She gave me a reassuring smile on her pink lips. I tried to return it with out looking like I was going to be sick. I'm not sure it worked. Lily had more of a tomboy vibe than anything else which made sense living with Marcus.
We pushed our way through the crowd sitting at a small table which seated all of us. After sitting down we nominated three people to go get lunch. I handed Lissa my money and thanked her Jake and lily, as did Marcus. Marcus sat across from me at little to the left.
"So what's it like living with your aunt and Lissa?" He asked trying to make conversation.
"It's pretty cool. Of course, Lissa's my best friend so I knew it would be fun. And Nancy's like a second Lissa so I can't complain." I answered figuring if the conversation was going to continue I figured I needed to give him more than your average 'it's good'
"Really? Well personally-" Marcus was cut off by none other than Tiffany.
"Haha that's hilarious Marcus. Now could you give me and Addi some alone time? You know girl talk." She asked. My eyes screamed at Marcus to stay where he was.
"Course." He got up and bowed his head. His blonde hair falling into his eyes. "I'll see you lady's later." Tiffany waved at him as he left and as soon as he was out of sight she rolled her eyes and fake gaged over dramatically. She Sat down across from me and leaned in. I tensed.
"I know you're lying." She accused. I tired to fake confusion.
"What are you talking about?" I asked quietly. She groaned and crossed her arms.
"Don't play dumb addilyn I know why you really came here. You've been telling everyone that your parents sent you here for a change on scenery but I know the real reason." She spat. I tired to sit up straight.
"I don't know what you talking about." I told her. She grinned wickedly as if she were getting ready to slaughter her prey.
"I know your parent were killed in a car crash." She accused. My fake confidence was shot and the ache I left every second of everyday decided to grow heavy.
"Y-your wrong my parents aren't dead." I tried to convince her. She sneered.
"You and I both know that's a lie. You caused the car to crash. It's your fault." She accused once more. "No!" I said Almost immediately. My eyes were beginning to tear up but l wasn't going to give her the satisfaction of seeing me cry.
"Oo defensive aren't we. Shame. I would have loved to meet the people that brought such a screw up into the world. If you don't stay away from your new friends then I'm just going to have to tell everyone what a liar you are." And with that Tiffany stood up and sashayed away like nothing had happened. But everything had happened. I was over here dying inside and she was probably over there talking about lipstick or something. A tear slipped my eye. As soon as the tear escaped I dabbed it away so no one would see it.
I starred blankly at the wall in front of me. I herd a bunch of foot steps behind me when Lissa slid in the right of me. All four of my friends crowded around me.
"Addi I'm sorry I didn't realize it was her who was out for you." Marcus apologized. I shook my head and turned to him I tried to smile.
"It's okay." I whispered. A few tears escaped my eyes but I wiped them away with my sweater. I could feel all their eyes on me. I'm not sure what they were expecting. Maybe for me to brake down. Maybe they were waiting for me to scream or something but that wasn't going to happen. I was going to dry my tears and carry on.
I alowed a smile carve into my features trying to remember my mothers words. At that moment everyone had a hand on my back. My lip quivered before I spoke.
"Could you hand me the fries?" I asked Jake. He looked at me surprised and handed me the bucket of fries. I thanked him. The rest of lunch was silent. Everyone looked at me worried but I just ignored them and ate my food .
After lunch I had my favourite subject. English. I really want to become a journalist when I'm older and I've worked my butt off to get at least a 90 on every test. No lower. Sense I worked so hard in the early years everything to do with this subject come easy to me.
Jake, lily and I walked into the room with many posters on the walls quoting books. Lily ran off to the back corner. Jake said that it was 'her spot' and no one dare sit there. Jake and I took two desks side by side. I piled my books down on the desk on plopped down on the seat facing forward.
"So what did Tiffany say to you?" Jake asked. I took in a sharp breath. I turned to him and he placed his books down and slid in the chair next to me. I bit my lip.
"It's not important." I lied. I wasn't going to let our new friend ship be based off pity. I want them to see me for me. One event does make a person. Jake obviously not satisfied with my response. he opened his mouth to continue but before he could utter a word the door swung open. In walked a middle aged man in a collared shirt and a leather jacket. Covering his eyes were sun glasses. I leaned over to Jake.
"What is this? Boy meets world?" He snickered at my reference. The man walked to the desk and laid his jacket across it. He removed his sun glasses and smiled at us. He Leaned back against the desk at the front of the room.
"Welcome back to English young students. for the rest of this semester we will be focusing on novel studies." He announced to us. He stood up straight and we all watched as he walked around to the back of the desk. He bent down and rummaged through a desk drawer before pulling out a thin book.
