I felt my mother stiffen in my arms. "What are you doing here?" she asked through clenched teeth. It was pretty obvious that my mother was mad at my father for doing this to me.
"I came here to see how Andrea was doing," he said walking towards me.
I pinned myself to the bedhead. My mother could sense that I was afraid of him. She grabbed a syringe that was near me, held it up in defense and ran towards my father with it. Dylan at her heels. The only thing I could process in that moment was, how did a cap-less syringe get there?
"YOU WILL NOT HURT MY BABY GIRL EVER AGAIN! DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME!" she yelled. Dylan grabbed her holding her back from doing anything to my father.
My father put up his hands in defense. "Carol, calm down!"
"Calm down!? How can I! I almost lost my daughter because of you! Look at her!" she said pointing at me. "YOU DID THAT TO HER!" She yelled furiously at my father. tear running down her cheeks. She fought, trying to move away from Dylan's hold but he was stronger.
"Mom... please... don't!" I shouted.
"Ms. Chandler, you don't want to do this. He's not worth it. If you hurt him you won't be any different from him. Your daughter needs you right now. Go be with her. Go be with Andrea."
She stopped fighting Dylan and put the syringe down. She looked over at me and saw that I was terrified. She dropped the syringe and ran towards me, hugging me.
"Andrea," she said tears streaming down her eyes.
"Mom," I said hugging her tightly.
"Andrea. I'm so sorry you had to witness that. I don't know what came over me."
Now tears started to run down my eyes. "It's okay, mom. You were just trying to protect me I know it."
"I don't want anything bad to happen to you ever again."
A nurse came barging in the room. "What's happening in here? I heard shouting. Are you alright miss?" she said looking at Andrea.
"Nurse. Can you please take this man away? He's provoking your patient," Dylan said talking about my father.
"Of course," she said and escorted my father out.
Dylan walked over and stood by my side. "What are we going to do about him?" he said to my mother. I looked intensively at her.
She took a deep breath and sighed. "I'm not sure."
Just when you think everything is fine, it's not. Whenever I try to move on, my past always catches up to me and then trouble follows.
