Chapter 31: Living In Fear

Dan's POV

Winter was the time of year that I really hated. I loved Christmas and celebrating it, but almost everyone would agree with me that winter was probably them worst time of the year.

As I walked along to Becca's house I shoved my hands into my pockets insulating more warmth. Even if I was wearing cloves.

My shoes crunched against the frost on the pavement as Christmas lights and decorations were everywhere twinkly and shining in the dull December morning as my breath swirled with every exhalation I was taking.

I hadn't told Becca that Jess was pregnant. I know, I know! I'm a terrible friend, but I wanted to tell her near the end of Jess's pregnancy, which was only two months away. Now that Jess was seven months pregnant and getting bigger by the minute, I thought it was time to tell Becca. I have been seeing Becca a lot since Tommy left for work and should be home by Christmas, I thought it would be time Becca knew about the baby and that it was a girl.

I walked up the steps and was about to knock on the door when it suddenly flew open and a screaming Becca rugby tackled me to the ground and hugged me.

"I can't believe you Dan! You're having a baby before me!!!? I can't believe my little brothers gonna be a daddy!! Before me!!?" Becca squealed as I sat up pushing her off me as my eyes were widened as Becca giggled and clapped her hands.

"How-how did you........?" I stammered and Becca laughed as she pushed me.

"Jess told me everything! I knew before you!!" She stated smiling as I stared in shock.

"You knew before me!!? And you didn't say anything!? You knew this whole time and I thought I was a bad friend for not knowing!!?" I said angrily and Becca giggled as she helped me up. 

"Don't be mad! I wanted you tell tell me. But Jess came over and blurted out she was pregnant, she didn't mean to she wanted to tell you first but she just broke down and told me. Please don't be mad Danny, I'm so happy for you." She said pouting and I smirked pulling her in for a hug and patted her back.

"It's okay, I'm glad you told me. I just don't know why you didn't tell me be-"

"Jess said not to. Don't be mad at her, I was just respecting her wishes. Please come inside and tell me everything. I really want to know! And I'm so excited you're gonna be a dad!" She squealed and I giggled.

"So what did Jess tell you?" I asked string down at the table as Becca handed me a mug of coffee as she sat down opposite me.

"No that much, she only told me a day before she told you. I invited her over and she broke down and blurted out she was pregnant. She claimed she was only thirteen weeks, I was happy and scared for her at the same time. I asked her if you knew, she said no. After we talked I told her I was happy for her and she ran off to go and tell you......." Becca paused for a moment to sip her coffee and sighed.

"She explained why she broke up with you. I was mad at her, she hurt my little brother; you Dan. I was angry at her when you told me and I wanted to kill her for hurting you. Then she explained why she broke up with you and I understood. Ever since that day I didn't tell you, I kept it secret even though you see me everyday. Then when I asked Jess if it was okay to tell you I knew she said yes. That's all I know Dan." She said looking at floor guiltily and I grabbed her hand in comfort.
