Chapter 38: Life is a Beautiful Mystery

Dan's POV

My breath swirled with every exhalation I was taking as I shoved my hands into my pockets for more warmth as I walked along the beach with Phil.

Ever since I found out Jess had a stillborn twin it felt like I didn't know her anymore. I didn't understand why she didn't tell me, I was more confused than ever.

To be fair; at that moment I was focusing on comforting her and supporting her and Isabelle that I wasn't bothered about the news. I comforted her and said everything was going to be okay, and after that it kinda was.

Jess became more happier and Isabelle was growing by the minute, she was babbling sentences and started calling me 'daddy' but still carried on calling Jess 'mama' which was still cute to me.

She was now out of nappies and Jess partially stopped breast feeding her, she was growing up fast by the minute. Every time I saw her she was so gorgeous and beautiful I couldn't believe how big she was getting, she was turning two in three months and we were preparing to celebrate it.

"Jess should be here soon with Isabelle, I can't believe she's spending Christmas with us this year." Phil said shoving his hands into his pockets.

"Yeah I know, she's growing up so fast." I sighed and Phil chuckled slightly patting my back.

"She really is, she started calling me 'Philly'" Phil said laughing slightly.

"I'm sure that name won't last." I said as I looked at him and he raised his eyebrows slightly giving me a concerned look but smiled.

"Probably not. Oh, look! There they are!" Phil said pointing in the distance as I shot my head around spotting Jess holding Isabelle's tiny hand as she waddled and stamped her feet into the sand.

We started walking towards them and Isabelle squealed in delight as she spotted me, letting go of Jess's hand as she held out her arms and ran towards me as I ran to her.

"Daddy! Daddy!" She squealed out showing her little teeth that just came out as I scooped her up in my arms and pressed her up against my chest, her small fragile body was against mine as she wrapped her arms around my neck.

"Hello sweetie, I've missed you so much baby girl." I told her as she giggled, kissing her cheek and she laughed.

"Hello izzy honey, oh my god you've grown the last time I saw you!" Phil said as I chuckled handing her to Phil as she giggled, her tiny legs kicked in the air as Phil held her up over his head.

"Hi Dan, hi Phil." Jess greeted walking up to us rubbing her hands together from the coldness that filled the air.

"Hey Jess, how have you been?" I asked and she smiled nodding slightly.

"Pretty good, I've been promoted up at the hospital." She said proudly smiling and I hugged her.

"Congratulations, does that mean you'll be working more hours or something?" I asked her but she shook her head.

"No actually which is good, they just gave me a pay raise." She said smiling confidently.

"Well congratulations." I told her and she giggled slightly twirling her hair nervously.

"I guess I should get going, let me just say bye to Isabelle." She said put I grabbed her hand stopping her at her tracks.

"Why don't you spend Christmas with us, we don't you to be alone." I asked her and she gave me a confused look but then her face softened.
