Eee the Unholy Divine at Wattpad answered our summons! I knew the ritual would work!
Oh, jeez, it actually worked, um...
First off, what is the @Fright profile? What does it offer?
Fright is a community of adrenaline junkies who love the chills and thrills found in Horror, Paranormal, and Thrilling Mystery genres. You're guaranteed to find something to make your breath hitch, raise the hair on the nape of your neck, or give you goosebumps. Our themed reading lists and anthologies of hand picked short stories are designed to showcase the blood cooling talents of Wattpad writers.
Fright Bites - These bites aim to celebrate the diversity of these exciting genres, both in sub-genre, length and style, so whether you're channeling Lovecraft or King, the supernatural, full moons, dark alleyways, sharp teeth or screaming bloody murder, we know you'll find something here to inspire a shiver or two.
We also challenge you to discover your own dark side with our regular writing prompts and contests.
Submissions are open for both our anthologies and reading lists. Please follow the submission criteria set out on the profile or anthology to ensure it reaches the right department in the team.
Sounds like our sort of place!
I heard something about contests! Do you have any coming up for the readers?
What were some of the contests you've run in the past?We do love how a simple prompt can inspire such a diverse range of entries in our contests and challenges.
The idea for the theme can come from absolutely anywhere. "No Pearly Whites Here" for example, came about because of a toothpaste advert and inspired many fantastic entries that gave some of the judges nightmares.
Our most recent contest, Creature Feature, is the product of randomly browsing old cinema listings. This contest is the biggest one we've hosted to date, purely through collaboration with other genre profiles. It took us two weeks of sleepless nights and caffeine fueled days to select the finalists, then a further two weeks for readers to choose their favourite as winner. But it was worth it! The entries are spine tinglingly frightful.
October sees the start of longer nights. Longer nights bring more of the things that dwell in the darkness. For October's prompt, we'll be looking for chills inspired by fading light, "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"
How do you see @Fright expanding?
Oh boy! Future expansion plans is a difficult one to answer. A lot of the time it's the voices making the suggestions and we try to work with them. They can be a little vague sometimes or we'd only hear a word or two. You NEVER ask the voices to repeat themselves (the headaches that follow are brutal). There are whispers of more anthologies. One of the team heard distinct words the other day, "Murder Mystery", so we're looking at something we can do for that.
Inspiration is random and can strike at anytime or place.
Ah, yes, the ol' "spirits trying to get you to tell their story but they gotta make you think it's their idea" trick, don't we know it!
At least when the Ouija board is possessed it is pretty silent. It's just angrily moving the planchette around. You can't really 'yell' with a Ouija board.
Well...unless you throw it, that is. That's happened.
A murder mystery sounds amazing!
Speaking of amazing things, can you recommend some authors on Wattpad that our users might enjoy checking out?
The voices say, "Read all of them." Everything on our lists is worth reading!
Thank you so much for speaking with us! Are there any final thoughts you'd like to leave us with?
Thank you for allowing us the use of your board! We wish you and your readers a fright-filled holiday. Should you experience something neither man nor science can explain, come and tell us about it, too. We love a good scare!
