Sidewalk

Step after step I walk,
My feet hitting cement,
As I pace,
Along with the sidewalk.
Everyday I follow this path,
Unaware of the adventure I could have,
If I turned around,
And walked in the grass,
Imagine what Dorothy could've done,
If she didn't follow that yellow brick road.
Imagine where you might go,
If you went somewhere,
A path couldn't lead.
If you made your own lane,
And decided to leave,
The paved sidewalk.
Everyone walks on the sidewalk,
Instead of taking their own back road.
An average pedestrian I am not,
For I never forgot,
Like Dorothy and others before,
A path will lead you somewhere,
But it will never bring you home.
