It was a beautiful morning,
But I was intent on snoring,
So as the birds sang their beautiful refrain,
I wished only for them to go away.
Day after day,
I'd yell at the blue jays,
Oh, not today!
I covered my ears with pillows,
As the birds continued to sing from the willows,
Blocking out a melody,
That filled tired, cranky hearts with pain. After the summer rain,
After Autumn came,
Leaving fallen leaves in it's wake,
For the cold winter breeze to take,
I found myself awake.
My ears had no earache,
From my daily symphony,
That wasn't being played.
And so I stayed,
Looking out the window,
Too concerned to snore,
Listening for more,
Than just the memory,
Of what was really,
The morning's sweet refrain.
I was sad that the birdies,
Left with the breeze,
To never wake me up,
So I could hear them sing. Then the snow melted,
Then the sun shined,
Bringing with it melodies,
Of a new kind.
And I was greeted by notes,
That made me want to write a rhyme,
Just so I could say,
I now wake up before nine.
