If every word I said,
Was burned on the back of your hand,
Would you then listen?
Would you then try to understand?
If every memory I had,
Was reflected in your glass lens,
Would you try to see,
From my side of the fence?
If every thought I wondered,
Was put in your ball hat,
Would you then believe,
That I truly meant this and that?
If every choice I've made,
Hung on your neck,
Would you then notice,
How I tried not to let my life become this reck?
If my long, hard journey,
Was at the soles of your feet,
Could you then experience,
How all my work has left me beat?
If all my worries,
Were under your eyes,
Could you then understand,
My fears and alibis?
If all my feelings,
Were in a pocket by your heart,
Could you then appreciate,
That I have tried from the very start?
If all my woes,
Were in your eyes,
Could you then feel,
How hard it is for me not to cry?
If all my guilt,
Was in your forehead,
Would you not have headaches,
Or turn a scarlet red?
If all your lies,
Were in your own ear,
Would you know what it's like to be deaf,
Not knowing what to hear?
If my life,
Were in your hands,
Would you drop me,
Or help me stand?
No you wouldn't,
Because you either don't,
Or you can't,
Understand.
