Chapter 16

Maddie had never felt so angry in her life. Maddie held a battle stick in her hand at the training room at City hall and faced another hunter. The girl had a battle stick with her, and Maddie angrily battled her. Within each hit Maddie deflected, Maddie's anger began to increase. Each hit reminded Maddie that she wanted to punch Jenna repeatedly in the face.

Why the hell did Jenna have to involve herself in Maddie's personal life. Maddie already had enough on her plate, and Jenna was making it worse. Maddie kept thinking about why Jenna was so relevant, but nothing made sense. Jenna purposely let a human get attacked by a fury, and did nothing to stop it. Jenna just waited in the shadows as if she was batman. Jenna only showed up after Maddie killed the bird. Maddie paused and attacked the girl with her defense swiftly and quickly.

Luke had been ignoring Maddie's calls all morning, and it upset her so much. Jenna ruined that relationship before even knowing about it. Maddie stared at the girl and angrily attacked again with her stick. Luke thought that Maddie was a monster for hurting Jenna, meanwhile Maddie had nothing to do with it. She hated the way Luke looked at her last night. It looked like he just watched her kill his entire family. The face was unforgettable, and Maddie hated every moment. She wished there was something she could do to get him back. She cared about him deeply to lose him.

Maddie then felt her feet be kicked out from her, making her fall on her back and drop the stick. Maddie's opponent put the stick to her neck and smirked at her. Maddie gasped and stared at the victor in horror. Maddie had just lost the match for the first time in years. The girl put the stick away afterwards and Maddie stood up gracefully, staring at the ground. What the hell just happened? She asked herself. Maddie sighed and wiped the sweat from her forehead. She walked to the bench and took a sip from her water. The cold water sent chills down her spine. M

Maddie's phone buzzed in her bag and Maddie picked it up. "Now's not a good time, Alex," Maddie snapped angrily.

There was a pause. "Damn, someone woke up on the wrong side of the couch today," Alex mumbled on the ear. "What's going on with you?"

"I just lost my match to Perky Polly Jasperson." Maddie sighed. "I haven't lost in years!"

"I know what can make you feel better." There was a pause and a rumbling of papers in the background. "Taco Bell and snooping."

Maddie raised an eyebrow and leaned against the cool black wall. "Who are we spying on?"

"Just get to the park and you'll see." Alex hung up on the phone.

Maddie exhaled and stared at the roof. What was she about to get herself into? Maddie decided against her better judgment to meet up with Alex, and get the tacos he supposedly had. Alex was a pain in her ass, but he sure knew how to make her feel better. Maddie grabbed her stuff and walked out of City Hall. She felt the heat against her hair and the cool breeze against her skin as she walked towards the park.

The whole time, Maddie felt as if someone was following her. A couple of times, Maddie turned around and saw a girl wearing a long coat. Maddie felt a lump in her throat, making her nervous. Out of nowhere, Maddie then decided to make her walk a job to the park. Maddie felt the breeze hit her skin as Maddie ran through each block filled with homes, hoping that the girl in the cloak would disappear. Maddie had tried to think it was all coincidental, but the girl with the cloak followed her for a couple of blocks now.

Maddie kicked up her speed and the jog then became a run. Maddie ran towards the park, and cut through red lights and made turns to throw the girl off track. Breathing getting hard, Maddie slowed down once she got closer to the park. Maddie felt her hands get sweaty as she felt the sensation get stronger. Adrenaline kicking in, Maddie drew her sword out of her belt, whipped around, and stood defensively. The girl in the cloak was no longer there. Maddie let out a breath of relief as she put her weapon away. She lost the girl.
