Chapter 38:The Truth comes out

Third pov
"Whoa, whoa, whoa...hold on a second! What the hell are you saying?!"
"You heard what I said," Reiju appeared calm, too calm. "Niji was going to kill you if Sanji didn't break up with you."

Victoria sat there, silent & shocked. Was there any other way to say it? No, not really. Victoria waited for Reiju to say that she was kidding, and tell her another reason why her & Sanji broke off. But..Reiju simply stared at her, awaiting for a response of some sorts.

"You gotta be kidding me..." Victoria whispers.
Reiju shook her head. "No, I'm telling the truth. Sanji was trying to protect you. He loves & cares about you so much that he was willing to break your heart so that he could see you live another day." She smiled weakly. "A couple months back, he told me stories about you. About how happy you made him, over & over he'd say how much he loved you. He'd have this twinkle in his eye."

Victoria sat there, trying to process everything that Reiju just told her. She felt relieved & happy. She didn't even bother to hide her tears of happiness from Reiju. Slowly, bit by bit, Victoria could feel her love for Sanji blossom again. It almost felt like that he was in the room with her.

"Sanji...still loves me?" Victoria squeaked.
Reiju nods. "Endlessly. He wants to be with you again."
"Oh..." Victoria wiped her tears away, a dorky smile on her face. "Thats amazing!"
"Yes..but.." Reiju stared at the ground. "He can't."
"W-why?!"

"Because..if my other brothers found out about you, they'd kill you."

Victoria then started to feel a sense of anger towards the other three brothers. She scrunched her fists up, and glared at her bed.

"Why would they kill me?! I don't even know them, and I haven't done anything to them!" She hisses.
"Its because they think you're a commoner. And when high nobles mingle with commoners..."

Realization hits Victoria. She knew of those rules. Nobles find it disgusting when other nobles mingle with commoners. Some noble families that are dangerous enough, might even kill the commoner that a noble is involved with. And after hearing about what Reiju just told her, it appears that the Vinsmoke family is far more dangerous than others.

"But..." Reiju started. "That is what they think."
Victoria raised her eyebrows. "What do you mean?"
"When a noble mingles with other nobles, depending on their family, it is said that they might be a smart match."
"So what has that got to do with me?" She asked.

Reiju smiled. "Victoria...you're a Chevallier."
"Yeah, thats my last name."
"Yes...but the Chevallier family is a high class noble family."
Victoria laughed harshly. "Me? A noble? I don't believe it. There is no way that I can be a noble. Its probably just mere coincidence that I have the same last name."
"There is only one Chevallier family in the whole world."
"But...thats impossible!"

"Victoria...12 years ago, the Chevallier mansion had a giant fire. It was said that they had lost their oldest girl in the fire. Thats you Victoria."

Then suddenly, everything clicked into place for Victoria as a flashback hit her like a bus.

*flashback*

"Honey....where are you?" A voice like silk rang out as they searched the kitchen.

A little six year old girl with blonde hair hid underneath a table, giggling about how her Father hasn't found her yet. She giggled even harder when her Father tripped on something, and swore to himself.

"Daddy shouldn't swear..." she giggles.

Then she squealed when her Father pulled her up from under the table. He gave his daughter a kiss on the cheek.
