CHAPTER 26

Raghav  felt  guilty that  Sanjana  was even  denied  her  mother's  photo........bitterness had  overcome,,him.....everything  reminded him of kalpana....he  missed  her   through  the  years......and    the  thought  of   little  Sanjana   wailing  for  her  mum  after  seeing  her  mum's  photo  was   too much  for  Raghav to  handle......Sanjana  has  always  been a good  child.....perhaps  he  had  wronged  her...  he  decided  ,  on her next birthday   he  was  going  to  take  Sanjana   to  his  room,,which  has remained    locked.....for  many  years...painfull  memories.....Raghav  occupied   his  late  granmother's room.the servants  were not allowed  to  talk about  Kalpana.......
''Daddy..daddy  !......Sanjana came running  to  him
"'what  is  it  sweetie......'' Raghav   knelt  down  ....and  hugged   his  daughter...
"Uncle  Sunil  is  here...and  he  has  a  plaster  on  his  chin.."'
Raghav    carried  Sanjana and  went  to  the  hall where  Sunil  was  seated....           ..for  a few  minutes   he  avoided...looking  at  Raghav..then  decided.....Raghav  was    not  a stranger  but  his  brother
"i  am  sorry  bhaiya.....i  behaved   badly...Sunil  apologised...
''Apologies  accepted,...come  let's  have  breakfast........'',,Raghav  invited....and  went  to  the  dining  hall....Rubina  was  already  there..'
"what  happened  to  you  Sunil".?  ...she  asked  even   before   he  could  take  his  seat
''.i   pressed  the  razor  too hard  mother,......''Sunil  lied
'' were  you   day  dreaming  Sunil,,"....Rubina  went  on
yes  mother.....i am  always  dreaming  about  Reshma......Sunil's  mind  spoke  to  him......Reshma...Reshma....is  the  only  name  i  can  think  of..
''it  was  just  a  very  small cut  mother....no  cause  for  alarm...''Sunil  replied  ...snapping  out  of  his  reverie
'' Sanjana,...'  Rubina  turned  her attention  to  her 
''Yes    grandmother''"
'' let  her  be. mother.....Raghav  interupted.....he  knew  why  his  mother   looked  at  Sanjana.........his  little  pumpkin  was  seated  on  his  lap......eating  her   slice  of  apple...
''...she  is  ...'............Rubina   began  to  speak
"'  i said  .let    her be  mother....or  do  you  prefer,....My  daughter and  i  go  else where  for  breakfast.......Raghav  sounded irritated.
Rubina  did not  utter  another   word  after  that.....
after  breakfast   ,,Raghav  ushered  Sunil  to  his   Grandmother's  room......
''  relax  Sunil  i am  not  going  to   hit  you  again.....i  want  you  to  go  to  your  office.....and  apologise  to  miss  Raj......profusely........you  scared  the  living daylight  out  of  her.........then  you  relax........keep  you  distance.......while  you  get  to  know  her.......no  more  of  your  stupid  stunts....to  woo  her........do  i  make   myself  clear......
'' yes  Bhaiya........sunil  nodded............Raghav  has  always  been  the  better  man......Sunil  knew..it  well........he  neeeded  to  change  his  ways......no  other  girl  has   made  him  feel  this  way........,,Reshma  was  a  special  girl......he  would  do  anything  to  be  with  her.....Sunil   knew  his  brother  was  keeping    both  eyes  on  him.....one  slight  wrong  move......Raghav  was  going  to  attack  him........
Raghav  left  for  work,..leaving    Sanjana  with  nurse  lalitha  who  has  been  her  nanny,,,,from  the  day  Sanjana was  born.........she  was  very  efficent  with    her  care  towards..Sanjana
at  about  noon  ..he   attended  an  important  meeting  and  was  busy  the  whole  day'
back in  hydrabad.......Sunil   waited  anxiously    for  Reshma  to   show  up.......his  heart  raced  when  he  saw  her  walk  in  to  the  office.......he  walked  up  to  her.....slowly  ......'' Miss Reshma  Raj  i  am  truly  sorry  for  i  have  behaved  very  badly'' Sunil apologised  and   offered  Reshma  a   bouquet of   flowers.......''
Reshma  stood   ..in  front  of  him......there  was  no  fear  in  her  now.........Raghav  Gupta  had  given  her  confidence,,
''i  accept  your  apologies  sir....now  if  you'll  excuse  me  i  have  a  lot  of  work  to  do.....:;   Reshma  began  to  walk  away
"'Friends........Sunil  said  
all  are  my  friends..sir..." Replied  Rheshma....and   went  to  her  cubicle.............began  her  work  on  a happy  note
Sunil   ..watched  her  work  for  a few  minutes.....closed  the  blinds   ..........and  he  himself   started  work....he  was  not  going  to  spy  on   her  through  the  blinds  anymore
.Raghav   sat  in  his  office   ,going  through  the  files..............he  was  planning   a  birthday  for  his  little  princess,........her  birthday   was  also  the  same  day  his  kalpana  died,...............the  crap  about  life  has  to  go  on ,,,was  absouletly   rubbish...Raghav  never  forgot  anything about  Kalpana.......all  her  belongings  were  still in  his  room...except  that  it  was locked...........
he  ordered  cake..baloons......all the  party  items  children  loved  so  much...........a  small  party  would  be  fine........all of  Sanjana's
friends  were  invited,,,..having  done  all the  arrangements..,,Raghav  began  to  relax.......the    phone  rang..........''Raghav.......i  need  to  see you''...................Sureka  Patel.......''said  from  the  other  end
".......we  have  nothing  to  say  to  each  other,....Sureka............'' stay  away  from....me......'' Raghav  almost  shouted
" please  Raghav.......listen  to  me.....i  know  i  wronged  you  in  the  past......i  just  got  out  of  prison.....2  days..ago.......''  i  did   not  do  it  volunteerly.........i  was   made   to  do  it.....i  swear...
"  why  can't  you  just  leave..me  alone.............Sureka.........nothing  is  going  to  bring  Kalpana  back..........no  matter   what  you  say'  Raghav   ....was  silent.......
"What!........did  kalpana  leave  you...? '' Sureka   was   shocked.......As  she  posed  this  question"'..     .so  she   succeeded  in  separating  you and     kalpana.....
"What  rubbish ..are  you  talking  about....?.......Kalpana  died  8  years  ago......after  giving  birth  to  our  child..'''''Raghav  lost  his  temper.....then  calmed  down..........as  the  last  few  words..of  Sureka  Startled  him
'' Separating   Kalpana  and  me.......Sureka......what  are  you  saying..?
''Raghav  i  am  so  sorry....i  did  not  know  about  this  at  all''Sureka  replied.
Who were  you  refering  to....?  Sureka.....who  was  trying to  seperate   Kalpana  and  me"    Raghav  asked...his  voice  breaking
''I  cannot  tell you  on  the  phone........can  i  meet  you  somewhwere..............Sureka   asked
''Okay  .meet  me  at  the   Tiger  Bar......in    20  minutes........Raghav  replied...slammed  the  phone  down....and  quickly   grabbed  his  car  keys......and  rushed  out......and   reached   the  bar  in  15  minutes.....he  waited  outside........not  wanting  to  miss  Sureka  as  she  comes  in........Raghav  waited   ....he  looked  at  his  watch..........20  minutes  was  gone.....he  waited.....another  20  minites  flew..........''the  phone  rang.......but  it  was  not  from.......Sureka  
Raghav  left  the  Tiger  Bar  and   reached   Sureka's   posh   apartment........he  saw  Mr and  Mrs  Patel...........there.....and  police  personnel   everywhere..........
Mr  Gupta.....can  you  please    .come  this  way.......a  police  officer....directed  Raghav   to  a  large  bedroom........Sureka  was  lying   on  her  bed...the  telephone  cord  round  her  neck.......she  was  obviously  dead......'''''You  were  the  last  person  she  talked  to.....The  police  inspector....Informed   a  shocked  Raghav....'' we  need  you  to  come  to  the  police  Station...........to  record  what  your  conversation  was  all  about''
Raghav..........followed  ..the  inspector  to  the  police  station,,and   told  the  inspector..that  Sureka  had  contacted  him  just  and  hour  ago...........after  8  years......Raghav  informed   ....everthing  he  knew  about  Sureka.......what  she  had done   in  the  past,  8  years  go..........her  imprisonment,,,,,   for  attempting  to   murder    Kalpana....by  hiring  goons..to  finish  her  off,......................''My  wife  died  8  years  ago  inspector, after  childbirth  ......  just  let  her  rest  in  peace,I .don't  want   to   go  through   it  again......Raghav  said  bitterly..and   left .
'' he  is  a good man  sir,,a  senior..police  inspector  " said..to  the  new   Police  Officer.......i know  him well..........''Sureka Patel  died  .....within   2  minutes  after  the  phone  conversation..............and  we  have  cctv  footage..of  Mr  Gupta...leaving  his  office.........exactly  2  minutes   ...' Mr  Gupta  is  definetly  not  a  suspect.........
yes  you  are  right............The  Police  officer  replied  and  waited  till  Sureka's  Body  was  removed......from  her  apartment..

Ragahv  parked  his  car  near  a public  park.took   ....sat  on a park  bench.......and  sighed..........people  who  have  troubled  him  were still  around..........why  ?.......people  whom  he  had  no  interest  at  all...........people  from  the  past  emerged..................  .but his  love   was  gone.....
why  did  he  come  into  contact   with  all all these  worthless  creatures........?.....why  couldn't  God  just  leave  him  alone...........Sureka  Patel  wanted  to  tell him  who  the  actual  culprit  was  ...and  she  herself  ended  up  dead........he  watched  people  at  the  park...they  seemed  happy.....Raghav  took  his  wallet  out.........the  photo  of  a  Beautiful  girl  whose  face  was illuminated  by  birthday  candles...was  smilling....."'i will  love  you  for  ever  Kalpana Deepti........ Raghav  Whispered  and  close  his  eyes.......tears.......falling  uncontrolably..............Raghav    took  his  handkerchief.....out  and  dabbed  his  eyes.........he  saw  her...........Raghav's  legs  carried  him  as  fast  a  possible......he  ran   "'Kalpana.....wait  Kalpana......he  just  ran  after   her........Kalpana.............wait  please..............Raghav ran faster  and  caught  hold  of  her  arm..and  turned  her  around,..the  girl  screamed....''.a  group  of  people  had  surrounded him........Raghav   quickly  let  go  of  the  girl's  arm.........she  was   not  his  kalpana........''i  am  sorry  miss i  thought  you  were  some one  i  knew..i  am  sorry  ........ Raghav apologised....and  moved  away'

'Raghav  sat  in  his  car  shaking.....he   saw.... her   .......his  heart  was  telling  him.....but  she  was  no  more.......he  must  have  imagined  kalpana.......he  need  to  have  strict  self  control......he  needed  peace  of  mind...........he neede  the  house  of  God.......only  God  can  heal  him........................To  be  continued
