CHAPTER  38
Reshma    felt stiff   as she  lay  in the back  of  the  land  rover..the cold  wind  on  her  face......her  hands  bound  in tight  ropes..bitting  in her  skin..the  drive  was  long........''save  me  Raghav..please  Raghav   save  me....'Reshma   said  a silent  prayer
Sunil dragged  Reshma....  .........into   a  high walled    mansion..........after  parking  his  land rover.........Reshma  tried to  break  free from  his  grip...
''  Fight  all you  want   Reshma....after  tonight.......you  will be  mine  and  no one  can  take  me  away  from  me.......Sunil.. said  and  laughed
'' Reshma   fought  back..what  was  he  going to  do.''  Reshma  feared  the  worse......Sunil  was  evil..........he  tied  her  to  a chair,and only  then Reshma.,,realized  that  there was  a wedding  mandap...complete  with  a  priest..........performing  pre wedding  rites............Sunil   came  forward  untied  her  and   gave  her  a  platter  with wedding fineries........'' we  are  getting  married......"'    go and  get dressed.......'
Reshma    pushed  the  tray away  and  tried  to  run  from  there...but  Sunil  caught  her  .........
''No.......let  me  go......Sunil  let  me  go........ i am  not  who  you  think  i am...i am a  married  woman.....Reshma  pleaded.......and  tried  to  break free  again........"' Sunil retaliated  ".,don't  make  me   hurt  you...  Reshma.....
wear  these  wedding  attire  and   sit  on  the  mandap.....
No "  ..Cried..Reshma.....
..'' Let  me  go  Sunil........''  why  are  you  so evil..".. Reshma   shouted  and  made a sudden  move  and  started  to  run....she  ran  to  the  window..hoping  to jump  out  even if  it  meant  hurting  herself...
'Reshma ......''   Sunil  called  out  and  ran to  her  and  caught  her  wrist.........Reshma wrestled  with  all  her  might....but  he  was  so  strong.....he  dragged  her  to  the  mandap and  pushed her  down  beside  him   ...''the  priest   was  shocked''..errrr   the  bride  is  not  willing  i cannot   get   you  married  Sunil sir...'
a man suddenly  appeared  and  put  a  gun  to  the  priest's  head''   if  you  love  your  life...''' perform the  wedding rites....
The  priest  began to  sweat..as  his   kept  looking  at the  gun  pointed  at  his  his  head;..he  began  to  chant   the  wedding  rites  as  Reshma  began  to  cry......  ''Sunil......listen  to  me  i am  not  Reshma."...she  tried  to  stop  Sunil......still  trying  to  break  free  from  Sunil.........
"' Sunil.......what  is  all this...? ...Rubina  ..stepped  forward....and   pushed  the   wedding  garlands..from  the  tray........'''Sunil......what  madness  is  this....?....'
"Stay  out  of  this  Mother..i want   Reshma.........Sunil    was    determined  to  succeed  in  his  plans..''
" Sunil.............this  girl  is   not  the   right girl  for  you ....i will  find  a  good  woman  for  you...listen  to  me.....'' Rubina  tried  to  reason  with  with  her  son  but  he  was  deaf  to  Rubina's  pleas...
' Sunil  picked  up  the  mangalsutra...ready  to  tie  it  around  Reshma's  neck..Reshma  pushed  his  hand  and the  mangalsutra  fell  into  the fire'
Reshma..''  got  up  and  ran  where her  legs  could  carry...... Sunil  ran after  her........Reshma  stopped  suddenly  when  she  saw  Rubina......'march forward'
'' Rubina  aimed  the  gun  at  her'''''i don't  care  who  you  are  but  you  resemble  someone  from  my  past....i  don't  want  ever  to  see  you again.......one  woman  destroyed  my elder  son's  life    and  now  you  have  come  to  disrupt  my  younger  son's  life........i  want  you  out  of  our  lives
Rubina  fingered  the  trigger,......''    You  can't  kill  me  ...ever...Rubina...............i  loved  Raghav  so  deeply  and  i  cared  for  you....just  like  i  cared  for  my  parents  and  my  guardians.........i  still  love  my  husband......and  will  love  him  forever........i  always  felt  something  was  missing..i did not  know  what  happened  to  me..until....last  night  i  saw  a  picture  of  a girl  whose  face  was  illuminated  by  birthday candles......only  then  i realizesd..i  am  Kalpana  Deepti  Tejwani......your  daughter  in  law  whom  you  tried  to  kill.........i   remember  now...your  doctor  friend  me  gave  m  an injection..while  i was  in  labour.....
" Sunil   could  not  believe  what  he  was  hearing..........this  girl  whom  he  wanted  to  marry.....was  his  sister in law......the  marriage  had  taken  place  while  he  was  still in  college........he  never  got  to meet  her  and  here  she was,,in front  of  him....
'' kalpana.....this  time  i  will not  miss...''Rubina  aimed....the  gun  at kalpana......
Raghav   stepped forward from  behind  '' No  mother  don't  , he  .said     gently......trying  not  to  alarm  her    but  Rubina  did  not  let  go  off the  gun..she  aimed  the  gun  at  kalpana  and  pulled the  trigger,...' No...!mother..."  Sunil  shouted and  jumped  in front  of  kalpana and seconds  later  he  clutched  his  chest,,,blood  gushing  out,,he  fell forward..
Rubina  had  shot   Sunil......
kalpana  watched  in  horror  at  the  lifeless  form  of  Sunil  .........'Raghav  "  she  cried  and  rushed   and  hugged  him......
Raghav  had  arrived  just  as  Kalpana   was   identifying  herself.........he  wanted  to  just  hug  her  but  Rubina  held  the  gun  at  her...all  he  could do  was  try  to  dissuade  Rubina    not  to  shoot  kalpana  ...but  Rubina   was determined  to  kill kalpana..and  Sunil  took  the  shot..
the  police  who  had  also  arrived  with  Raghav........Took  the  gun  away from  a  shocked Rubina.......and   led  her away  but  she  turned  and  ran  to  Sunil  , lying  face down.......
Sunil....oh  my  god.!  my  poor  baby......!  .......  she  wailed  and  glared  at  kalpana....standing  with  Raghav...she  rushed  forward  ready  to  hurt  kalpana....''it  is  all because  of  you...you  should  have  died ,,you  should  have  died..... ' 'she wailed  in  anger   ..'
the  police  woman  caught  hold  of  Rubina  and  led  her  away  to the  police  van   ..Raghav  knelt  beside  Sunil........and  touched  him....he  moved  as  he  moaned  in  pain''
he was  alive.........an ambulance  rushed  him  to  the  hospital.....he was in  critical  condition...........To be  continued.....Evelyn....
