I sat beside Luke, we were on the benches outside waiting for the game to start. Corey and a few guys from the team were outside chatting amongst themselves. Some of their friends were on the pitch giving final words in the form of "good luck""Imma go wish him good luck!" I giggled, running down and onto the pitch and over to Corey
"Hi guys" I waved, givin Corey a quick hug "Good luck!"
He ruffled my hair "Thanks shorty"
"You won't need my luck! You can easily win" I chuckled
I went to speak, but was cut off my seeing something from the corner of my eye...
I noticed Matt walking over to us in his football kit, he was alone but I didn't want to face him
"I thought he was off the team" I whispered
"He is" Corey growled, pushing past us and walking over to him
I watched as Corey stormed over to Matt, who seemed unaware that he wasn't supposed to be playing
"Oi! I told you that you're off the team, no team, no game, off you go" Corey hissed
Matt's jaw dropped "But-but you cant do that! Who's taking my place? Please, let me play"
Corey folded his arms "No way. You hurt my sister and you're a crap player. I told you, off"
From the expression on Matt's face, he was in shock and disbelief. He kicked Corey's shin and pushed him back, but Corey managed to stay on his feet, stumbling back slightly
I ran over to the scene to try and stop Corey from being hurt, or hurting Matt
"C'mon Corey, leave him" I pulled his arm "Don't get involved. Don't touch him or you won't be able to play tonight"
"I thought you'd have learnt your lesson" Corey growled at Matt
"COREY! MATTHEW! WHAT IS GOING ON?" Coach shouted, running over to them
Matt stared at me "Apparently I'm not playing!" he threw his hands in the air
Coach looked at us three, then shrugged "Corey's the captain. He has his reasons. Matthew, you're off the team"
Matt looked at me, shook his head and rolled his eyes "All of that, for nothing. That month we dated was pointless.'You were a waste of time Wilson"
I lunged for him, but Corey held me back "Alexa, don't"
"Alexa go back to the benches. Corey follow me, let's have a team-talk" Coach announced
Corey and I nodded at each other, going our separate ways until the game was over
"What was that about?" Luke asked as I sat beside him
I shrugged "Matt's annoyed at Corey for kicking him off the team"
Luke cracked his knuckles and stopd up "I'm gonna give him a piece of my mind"
Quickly grabbing his arm, I pulled him to sit him down "Please, not now Luke"
He agreed that he wouldn't get involved, promising me to stay out of Matt's way and to let Corey and the team deal with him
The whistle blew and the two teams joined on the pitch, huddling in two circles witth their arms around each other to have a 'team talk'. Most of the guys friends, girlfriends, siblings etc. had joined at the benches to support them, it's their last game as exams start soon so they need to end it on a high
Corey
We were all in a circle, our arms round each other. These are the guys I've played alongside since I began at college, some I've known since high school, some I met here, but I'm proud to call them my best friends and team mates
"I know you can do this boys. Stay focused and work together, I'm proud of how far we've come and the high standard you're playing too. Go make yourselves proud, make those who've come to support you proud. C'mon guys, you can do this" coach motivated us
"All in, boys" I called, as we all put our hands in the middle, it's what we do before every single game
We finished our team talk and took our positions. The benches were full of supporters, I spotted Luke and Alexa, I gave them a faint smile before taking my place and waiting for the game to start
All I heard was coach blowing the whistle, indicating for the game to start. For the next 90 minutes, my eyes are on the ball and helping us win the final game, I have no worries, I step onto the pitch and I put my heart and soul into the game. I can't be stood on the pitch worrying about issues at home, it will only stress me out and distract me
For the final time, we began to play
