I linked arms with Zoe as we walked down the lane to the ice cream shop on the corner. They had just moved their shop from Seaford to Brighton and I had wanted to go for ages. I was really glad that Zoe had wanted to go there.
As I opened the door, the bell above it chimed merrily. There was a single women behind the till and the rest of the shop was empty. That made sense considering it was November and freezing cold outside.
The second we got in Zoe ran up to the bar of ice cream flavours like a little child. I smiled and chuckled like a loving dad. I then followed her up and looked in through the glass at he many different kinds. I didn't even have to think about what I was getting though. Without a doubt I would get peppermint.
"Alfie, what should I get?" she asked walking up and down the row looking at the what seemed to be hundreds of flavours.
"Vanilla?" I asked offering what I knew she would get in the end. This happened ever time we got ice cream. Zoe would think and think about what she wanted to get trying different chocolaty and fancy flavours, but in the end she would always get vanilla.
"Too boring," she said tossing it away like always. I knew she would end up with two scoops of it as usual. "Oooh maybe salted caramel," she said spinning around and looking at all her choices. She started murmuring other flavours under her breath. "Cotton candy, peppermint, mocha, cheesecake."
"Have you decided yet?" I asked with a grin.
"Oh, I'll just have vanilla," she said looking defeated. Vanilla was her favourite, she just hated admitting that such an exciting person as her liked such a boring flavour of ice cream.
"It's okay that you're boring," I said with yet another grin hugging her softly. I loved everything about Zoe, even if her favourite flavour of ice cream was so boring.
