THE VAMPIRES

ALEC AND I WERE CHECKING THE PERIMETER. It was silent and completely awkward. I stopped walking to take a breath. What if my sister isn't strong enough? "Bella, let's keep going." Alec said. "I can't... Alec," I said, my breathing hitching. "It should be me in there."

"Look," Alec said, turning to me and grabbing on my arm. "Let go of me." I glared.

"Don't let emotions cloud your mind. Emotions will get you killed."

I took my arm away from him and started walking away. "Bella," Alec said, walking towards me. I heard him walk next to me and I moved away from him.

"Are you always this rude?" I asked him.

He didn't answer me. Good. Maybe he feels bad. I hope he does. "Bella." Alec said. "Bella, stop." My next step I tripped over a big rock, falling on the ground face first. "You've got to be freakin' kidding me!" I seethed under my breathe. I felt Alec at my side, and he placed his hands on my waist to help me up.

When I looked up he was staring directly at me. He was so attractive. Even in the dark I could bring out all of his features. His hands on my waist made my heart flutter. "You know, it might actually help if you put your feet where you walk." He said rudely.

Rolling my eyes I got up and said, "Shut up."

Brushing the dirt off of my pants we made it back to where Isabelle and Simon stood. Alec bumped into me by accident, and I walked over to Simon. "So... is cracking someone's mind open supposed to take this long? Maybe we, or... you should go check?" Simon asked Isabelle. "Jace has it covered," Isabelle said, "Take my word for it. The silent brothers are quiet pleasant."

"That's not helping. Not at all."

"What if Clary can't handle the brothers? What does that mean..." Simon said.

"It literally never stops talking," Alec said, annoyed.

"Alec," I said, frowning.

"Is he always this charming?" Simon asked Isabelle.

"Firstborn. Heavy is the head that wears the crown." Isabelle answered. "Mmm. I feel his pain. Only son. Mother wants me to be a CPA." Simon said. "Hmm." Isabelle said.

"And you? What do you want?"

"Me?"

"Um... well, I'm in uh, a band..." Simon said.

"Yeah. What type of music?"

"Wait, let me guess. Indie rock?"

"Yeah," Simon grins. "How'd you know?"

"Got anything on your phone?" Isabelle asked.

"I do. We recorded it last night. We killed it," Simon said. "I left my phone in the uh, van..."

"Let's go get it." Isabelle smirked. Great, now I was left alone with Alec.

-

I was standing next to Alec, Clary, and Jace came out minutes later out of The City Of Bones. "What happened? What did you find out?" Alec asked Jace.

"Valentine is Clary and Bella's Father." Jace said. My eyes widened. Clary came over to me and brought me in a hug. She started sobbing and I cried, too.

This can't be happening. Valentine can't be our Father. "Wait a minute," Alec said. "You're telling me these girls show up out of nowhere, and they are Valentine's daughters? Did it ever occur to you that they might be spies? This might be part of their plan?" That's enough, Alec." Jace said. I turned to Alec, "Do you think my twin and I planned on having our Mom to be taken? Or- or for Dot having to be taken?"

How could he even think like that?

What's wrong with him, seriously? "Or to have this sword dangle over my sisters head?! And oh, let's not forget the best part! Finding out our Father is one of the most dangerous people out there!" I yelled at him.

"Where's Simon?" Clary asked. When I looked at Isabelle's face, my eyes widened. "Where is Simon?!"
-

"I told him to stay in the van." Isabelle said. "I've searched everywhere," Jace said, walking over to us.

"He's gone?" Clary asked. "I can't find him." Isabelle sighs.

"You were supposed to protect him!" I yelled at her.

"Simon!"

"Simon!" I yelled.

"Simon, no." Clary said.

"Simon? Is that the mundane's name?" Someone yelled from above us. I saw Simon dangling down from a thousand foot drop.

"I'm afraid Simon's coming with us." The man said.

"No!" Clary yelled. "No, he's not apart of this." Isabelle said.

"And it'll be a pleasure to kill you unless you return him." Jace threatens.

"Careful. We'll be violating the accords." The man said. "Simon," I whispered feeling my heart break.

"The night children have broken no laws. We're negotiating. The mundane, unharmed, in exchange for The Mortal Cup. And the clock is ticking." "Bella, Clary!" Simon yelled. "Simon, no!" I yelled. They were already gone.

Simon was gone.
