TROUBLE
I RAN A HAND THROUGH MY HAIR. Clary, Luke, and I walked up to the police station in the next hour. "All right, cards are on my desk. This shouldn't take that long." Luke said. "Okay, let's go!" I said.
Luke put a hand out to stop me from going. I groaned. "Seriously?"
"Whoa, Bella. It'll be easier for me to avoid unnecessary attention. Along with you," Luke said, he pointed toward Jace. "Fine, we'll wait here," I said, stomping my foot. "Don't be so stubborn, Bella." Luke said. I narrowed my eyes at him. I watched Luke walk away. "I'm not stubborn!" I called after him. "Pft. It sounded boring, anyways," I said, folding my arms and frowning.
-
I stomped my foot nervously and tapped it like a million of times. "I've got a bad feeling about this. What the hell is taking him so long?" My twin asked, as if she read my mind. "I know a way how we can find out." Jace said. I crossed my arms. "Like what?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Just go in and see for our selves."
"Luke told us to stay put. So, that's what we're gonna do," I said, blowing a strand of hair out of my face.
"Okay, Bella. Whatever you say." Jace chuckled. I rolled my eyes. Clary's phone rang. "See? That's probably him now." "I doubt it." Jace said. "Just so I'm clear, he did mention something about trying to avoid attention, right?" Jace asked. I turned to where Jace was looking and my eyes widened.
"Circle members?" I ask, my heart racing.
"No, mundanes. Internal affair officers." How'd he know that? "You can tell by just looking at them?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows together in confusion, not really seeing how he could do that.
I huffed. "I can tell by reading their badges," Jace said, as he pointed at a rune on his neck.
"Better then binoculars." I grinned. "Cool!" But not cool, because Luke's in trouble. Now what?
"Luke had his chance." Jace said.
"Yeah," Clary said, agreeing, "Let's go."
"Ok!" I said, excited about getting the cards.
Us three then headed inside.
-
Luke, Clary, and I headed inside. They brought us to the room where Luke is.
"One lawyer coming right up." One of the cops said.
"You sit tight. You want a coffee or anything? Garroway? Coffee?" He asked. Luke looked up.
"No, no. I'm good."
The man walked out and Clary, Jace, and I headed inside. I folded my arms across my chest. "Camera," Luke said. He said it in a paper napkin. Jace stepped up and he turned the camera off.
"Luke, what is going on?" I asked him, raising an eyebrow. "Think I'm about to be a prime suspect in a murder investigation." Luke said.
My eyes widened. What the hell? "What do we do?" Clary asked. "You guys get the cards. In my desk, bottom drawer." I nodded. "All right." I said. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. You can't glamour yourselves. I'm not the only downworlder on the force. And we don't know who here is working for Valentine." "Great, just great!" I said. "If anybody spots you," Luke said to Clair and I.
"We'll be leading them to the mortal Cup."
"Exactly. Better to assume that everybody has the sight than gamble that if they don't." I said, shrugging. "Bella-" Luke said. "Luke, I can take care of myself. Thank you very much," I said, grinning.
"Let's do this."
